Proving that the series' music has aged better than any bottled grape juice, whilst re-affirming that there's still room for a solid beat-em up in today's crowded market.
From great musical and visual presentation, to smooth fluid gameplay and unlockable content, bundled with online co-op play, Streets of Rage 4 is an absolute blast to play. Not disappointing in the least, it's more than just the finest addition to the series; it's the best in the genre, in my opinion.
Does SoR4 do the franchise justice? Yes! It gives older gamers the game they've been waiting for while offering younger players the chance to play a comic-book esque beat-em-up that's challenging and fun.
At eleven chapters it's the perfect length, and yet I can't help but feel that I'd keep playing for as long as it kept throwing me new chapters. Then again, "New Game" is right there. The same thugs will happily line right back up, likely with the added confidence of a higher difficulty setting, and I'll be just as happy to keep punching them.
it is obvious the love and attention that went into creating Streets of Rage 4, a game made first and foremost for fans, but made accessible and engaging enough for casual players to enjoy. Streets of Rage 4 is a must play, particularly towards fans who may have been on the fence.
Despite having a hefty 26 year gap between Streets of Rage 3 and Streets of Rage 4, the franchise has thankfully not missed a step. It's a familiar, safe, cocktail of furious on-screen fighting, blood-pumping dance beats and enchanting visuals.
If you’re looking for something that elevates the genre, you may be left wanting. Though going back to basics, and doing it very well, is sure to be a delight. It’s a classic American hamburger. Streets of Rage 4 looks great, will kick your ass, and you get more out of it the more you put in.
There’s a little bit for everybody in Streets of Rage 4, and the attention paid by the developers to appeal to both fans of old school beat ‘em ups and newcomers is apparent and skilfully executed.
Streets of Rage 4 was a blast to play, taking me back to my childhood and allowing me to have a reason to play with my friends. I recommend it not just to fans of the series, but as a fun introduction to this classic franchise.
Streets of Rage 4 is a surprisingly decent return to form for a franchise that's been collecting dust for over 25 years.
Take nostalgia out of the equation, and Streets of Rage 4 is the best entry in the series yet.
Both game's were led by development teams who had the challenge of continuing classic and beloved series. I'm happy to say that the dev teams creating Streets of Rage 4 have completely succeeded in making a new 2D entry in the series much like the Sonic Mania dev teams did. The utmost respect for the source material is clear throughout Streets of Rage 4 and I'm thrilled that we have this great new brawler in 2020.
Streets of Rage 4 is the perfect love letter to Sega's fan favorite beat-'em-up franchise. It captures the spirit and soul of the games while adding great new mechanics and tons of style. At its heart, it's a short, sweet, and well-made game about punching criminals until you can punch the biggest criminals of all. The price tag might be a bit steep if you're not someone who loves beating things up with friends, but for Streets of Rage fans, it is everything it should be.
Streets of Rage 4’s awesome presentation, fun combat, and clever Easter Eggs for series fanatics still make it worth a recommendation.
Fans of the Beat 'em Up genre will be pleased with what Streets of Rage 4 have to offer, the fights are challenging, the music is great and the art style is fantastic.

What Dotemu and partners have done is such a masterful expansion and resuscitation that I’d be willing to say that the series is officially theirs, and that they have collectively made brawlers a part of the conversation in game development for the first time in years. Bravo. Buy this game.
Streets of Rage 4 is back after 26 years, and it feels exactly the same as before. It can serve as a great example to the new generation on how we used to game, and the original fans of the series will find themselves in heaven with it.
