MindsEye developer Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) has engaged in another round of staff layoffs, and it's laying the blame squarely at the door of "organized espionage", a charge it's alleged before.
As spotted by Insider Gaming, the studio announced the layoffs via a LinkedIn post yesterday. BARB doesn't specify how many employees are being laid off, but the company does say the decision to let them go is "deeply painful", "brutal", and "heartbreaking".
In the following paragraphs, CEO Mark Gerhard says that the studio's leadership "take[s] responsibility for the outcomes of [its] projects and the decisions that follow", but the part of the statement that follows this sentence arguably does the complete opposite of that.
Gerhard goes on to say that Build a Rocket Boy has been "working with external partners and legal advisors" in order to investigate "criminal activity" that allegedly took place around MindsEye's launch.
He says the work has "taken far longer than expected", but that his investigation has turned up "overwhelming evidence of organized espionage and corporate sabotage" surrounding MindsEye. Of course, he can't show you this evidence because "this matter is moving towards prosecution".
