Marathon's Controversial Microtransactions And High Difficulty Are Already Being Tweaked

Marathon has only been out for a few days, but Bungie has already confirmed that it's going to tweak the controversial microtransactions and overwhelmingly high difficulty.

There was a time when it looked like Marathon was going to be another unfortunate casualty of PlayStation's live-service push. Before it was delayed for the first time, Bungie just couldn't catch a break with Marathon, thanks to a plagiarism controversy, reports of problems behind the scenes, and a stuffed market that didn't look to have room for another extraction shooter.

Now that Marathon is actually out, though, things are going much better than most assumed. While the player count isn't quite Arc Raiders' levels, Marathon is enjoying a pretty healthy community so far and seems to be going down well. That is, aside from the controversially invasive microtransactions and difficulty levels so brutal that they're causing streamers to quit.

As pointed out by Eurogamer, though, it looks like Bungie is already on the case with both notable controversies. Over on Twitter, the Marathon dev team account confirmed that it's received all of the reports and feedback, and is aiming to make some changes with a patch that will launch next week.
