Marathon has been out and in the hands of players for a little while now, and a lot of talk has inevitably started circling around the game's player counts. What with high-profile disasters like Highguard and Concord, a lot of discussion surrounding Marathon has been about whether it will follow those two into the void. It was never really going to solely because it had Bungie's name attached to it.
That being said, it seems pretty clear that Marathon's player numbers aren't quite what the studio would have hoped for, with the game currently sitting at a peak daily player count of 62,495. It only managed to amass an all-time peak of 88,337, which is quite a bit lower than the currently dying Highguard, and it's playerbase is starting to drop a little.
For the defenders of Marathon, they would probably say that Steam is only one place in which Marathon is being played, and that the game's PlayStation numbers would surely make the game's overall player base look much more impressive. PlayStation spent a bunch of money on Bungie, so surely it would be reaping the rewards of its acquisition, right?
