Dispatch is pretty much the modern day equivalent of all those banger Telltale games that released back in the 2010s, like The Walking Dead and Tales From the Borderlands (underrated, go play it). That makes a lot of sense, considering developer AdHoc Studios is made up of former Telltale employees, and you can see a lot of Telltale's DNA in Dispatch as a result.
That being said, there are a few key differences in Dispatch besides the whole gameplay stuff, and one of those is the lack of an option to stay silent during conversations. It was an interesting feature, and one that usually resulted in an awkward conversation, as your characters would stare blankly at someone while you were expected to say something.
However, in a talk during this year's Game Developer Conference (thanks PC Gamer), it was revealed by Dispatch creative directors Nick Herman and Dennis Lenart that AdHoc had considered a 'say nothing' option like it had in Telltale's previous games. Unfortunately, the lack of development resources mixed with the low percentage of people that actually picked the silent option meant it was scrapped.
