Major PlayStation Rebrand Promises The End Of An Era

The PlayStation Network, or PSN, has been a major part of the company's overall image and approach to gaming ever since the PS3 era, and it essentially served as an all-encompassing foundation for all of its online services, from the account system, to the digital storefront and multiplayer experiences.

Almost everyone who owns and plays on a PlayStation console in 2026 will have a PSN account, as it's a requirement for even some of the most basic features available on the platform. Now, new information has revealed that, whilst the system itself won't be going anywhere, the naming system will be gone for good quite soon.

As first reported by Tweak Town, a new email has emerged sent by Sony Interactive Entertainment that confirms the company will be phasing out the branding for both PlayStation Network and PSN by September 2026.

The important part of the email reads as follows:

"We'd like to inform you that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has strategically decided to phase out the terms "PlayStation Network" and "PSN" across our platform in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services.
