You've read the headlines over the last month: Destiny 2 is cutting support. With a dwindling playerbase after several disappointing content drops, the series appears to be on ice. There's no sequel, no spin-off, no future update. Bungie is focused squarely on Marathon.
Players have tried to reverse course, showing their unwavering support for the game by returning en masse and skyrocketing Destiny 2 to the top of the Steam charts, making it clear that there's still a loyal, dedicated community waiting in the wings. However, Forbes senior contributor Paul Tassi said that it hasn't moved the needle whatsoever, and that, optimistically, it'll be a long time before Destiny returns. The "very very far-flung future," if ever.
I'm not convinced that the community is blaming themselves for Destiny 2 being sunset, but it'd be easy to see why a few players might: people leaving, showing a lack of interest, and no longer spending money, of course, influenced Sony's decision, but nobody is beholden to unconditionally supporting a game. Doing so only emboldens bad practice and disappointing updates. Still, for those who do feel a semblance of responsibility, community manager Dylan "dmg04" Gafner assured that players shouldn't blame themselves...
