Sony's PlayStation 6 has yet to be unveiled, but concerns are already mounting around its potential price point, and an updated leak has prospective customers expecting the worst. The PlayStation 5 is more expensive than it was at launch, and new gaming hardware is reaching exorbitant prices – the cheapest you can get Valve's Steam Machine for is $1,049, and that doesn't even come with a new Steam Controller.
The PS6 may be on track for a similar, if not worse, price. A prediction from hardware leaker Kepler_L2 was posted to ResetEra, showing that an old bill of materials calculation for the PS6 is now $200 short. The updated figure claims Sony is currently spending roughly $960 on parts alone for the PlayStation 6, meaning the final consumer price, after manufacturing and other costs, is likely to exceed $1,000. The major point of worry, though, is that this estimate will itself be well below the actual price by the time the PS6 is even available.
