PC Invasion's Reviews

Oct 5, 2019

A short but entertaining and beautiful look at cyberpunk dystopia, through the unlikely lens of a gig economy taxi driver.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a really strong platformer with good level design and excellent visuals. Certain aspects of the game don't mix well together, but it's a good time overall.

A simple game premise turned chaotically good fun. The variety in the ways you get your golf ball (or car, or barrel, or egg, or...) to the goal will always keep you on your toes. This might not be a game that you're going to spend your next 80 gaming hours with, but it will be a great game to binge over a day or so.

Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones will not reveal all of its secrets, but it's an amazing ride all the way through.

7 / 10 - Code Vein
Oct 2, 2019

Code Vein is pretty fun, but it's dragged down some by some rote characters and dialogue and mediocre, tedious level design. It's also probably too easy for genre fans, but it's a solid game in its own right.

6 / 10.0 - The Surge 2
Sep 30, 2019

The Surge 2 isn't a bad game, but it gets some pretty big things wrong. In the end, I had some fun with it, but the broken parrying, awful enemy placement, and bland level layouts made it more of a slog.

9 / 10 - Applewood
Sep 27, 2019

Applewood has a ton of heart and great gameplay to back it up. The story, controls, and game design are all top-notch. We wholeheartedly recommend this one.

7 / 10 - Cat Quest II
Sep 26, 2019

Charming, adorable, and delightful, Cat Quest 2 offers a solid adventure-RPG romp. Sadly, it's best played in short bursts due to repetitiveness, and you're bound to seek help from another player since the AI teammate can be downright incompetent.

Nauticrawl is a short -- very possibly too short -- and memorable adventure.

5 / 10.0 - Devil's Hunt
Sep 23, 2019

Devil's Hunt's weighty combat and at times beautiful visuals are plagued with inconsistency, and lack the level of polish of the titles it borrows from. The result is an unfulfilling teen drama whose flashes of brilliance aren't near enough to justify its price tag.

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 – Cold War is a game that is sub-mod in quality and looks very much like an official asset flip. It’s the most disappointing mish-mash they could have possibly made. Maybe the game will improve as it gets patched, the September 6 patch did make it no longer possible to call in all the three waves at the start of the game. However, it also made a campaign mission ending crash the game, so I am not holding my breath.

The definition of short but sweet, except you're also short and a horrible goose. Possibly too short for some tastes, but an excellent and hilarious stealth-puzzler nonetheless.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a joy to play through. There are a few issues with the port, but it's a beautiful game that's a joy to get lost in.

With loads of content, amazing core gameplay mechanics, and unrivaled presentation, it keeps you engaged whether you're playing casually or competitively.

9 / 10.0 - Blasphemous
Sep 11, 2019

Blasphemous might be derivative, but it's one of the best, if not the best Metroid-like I've played this year. Not only is it downright gorgeous, but the gameplay is uniformly excellent and hunting for its many secrets make it a puzzle well worth exploring.

While it's true that GreedFall has some serious problems with variety and bizarrely re-used assets, the story is great and the combat and game systems are quite good. Anyone willing to look past its problems and dig into the narrative will likely have a good time with it.

I’m pretty confident in saying River City Girls is the best game to use the River City IP. It has a fantastic understanding of why people play beat-em-ups but typically avoids the pratfalls this genre can fall into. You can also pick up giant fish and smack people in the face with them. That makes this game good enough for me!

Fantasy General 2 is not a bad game, per se. But, it is sorely lacking in what can be considered as a full-fledged fantasy RPG or fantasy strategy experience.

Blair Witch is impressive and cleverly designed in many ways. Although there are answers to the abundant amount of questions that start to stir up over the course of the game, the end result still leaves many of those to be unanswered. The visual and sound fidelity provides an excellent foundation to the story that is being told. For psychological horror fans, it will scratch that much-needed itch.

3 / 10.0 - Decay of Logos

I can’t recommend that anyone play this game unless they just want to be truly surprised by how bad it is.
