5 / 10.0 - My Name is Mayo
Jan 11, 2017

My Name is Mayo is a parody of a game. When you strip down a modern AAA title to its very core, this is what you get. Like "Desert Bus" before it, this game shows what a modern video game fundamentally is; absurd. For $0.99 you can proudly walk away with at least 51 trophies and declare, "Oh, now I get it!"

5 / 10.0 - Yo-Kai Watch 2
Oct 27, 2016

After the disappointing original title, I was hopeful for a sequel that would fix some of the major problems and emphasize what the series does well. Instead, I got a sequel which made marginal if any improvements over the original game, only this time with no novelty whatsoever. It's very disheartening and doesn't bode well for the series' popularity in the West.

5 / 10.0 - Umbrella Corps

Umbrella Corps feels like a rushed, unfinished failed attempt at a third person multiplayer shooter. Don't waste your time.

5 / 10.0 - Yo-Kai Watch

I'm interested to see if Nintendo will continue this series in America. There's definitely a lot of groundwork made in this game, but it's so unrefined that I really can't recommend buying this game. But keep an eye out for a sequel, because if the combat system was fixed, this game could have been a home run.

5.2 / 10.0 - Shuyan Saga
Dec 14, 2023

I would have loved to score this game far higher, but the delicate balance of storytelling and gameplay is just not there. The storytelling and artwork are what massively carry the points I've scored for this title because in my opinion far more effort needed to be put into making compellingly fleshed-out beat-em-up sections as this game should have been absolutely incredible.

5.5 / 10.0 - Somerville
Aug 29, 2023

I couldn't say Somerville is my favourite game, nor would I say it's particularly action-packed or noteworthy in terms of puzzles, but technically it's a serviceable emotion-stirring two-and-a-half-hour jaunt that some may find value in.

Despite its original experimental premise, The Forest Cathedral suffers from an unpolished execution.

5.5 / 10.0 - Session: Skate Sim
Oct 9, 2022

I adored the concept but was entirely underwhelmed by the reality. Session Skate Sim is enjoyable, but only if that's what you're into. It's clever but only if you're appreciative of its exacting existence. And Ultimately it is rewarding strictly to yourself, with no scoring system or a competitive edge to set it against your friends or even existing skating IP's.

I don't know if Richard's advice works, but that's beside the point. Less important than its efficacy is the fact that it's manipulative, sleazy and degrading.

5.5 / 10.0 - Neversong
Sep 5, 2020

Neversong is a litany of missed opportunities, poor design choices and an underwhelming story. However, anyone looking for an inexpensive and time-respecting source of chills and nerve-tingling horrors will find something to enjoy in the journey--if not the destination--of Neversong.

5.5 / 10.0 - We Should Talk
Jul 17, 2020

With its bugs, loading issues, extremely short playthroughs, limited cast and predictable outcomes, We Should Talk feels more like a demo than a complete, polished game.

Alas, Panzer Dragoon: Remake rode on the nostalgia hype train too quickly and didn't deliver a compelling contemporary experience.

An enjoyable game but not something that you have to play, it's disappointingly short and has a definite unfinished feel in places. I finished the game in three sittings, in well under five hours combined without really even trying to hammer through it on a moderate difficulty, so seasoned gamers will have this smashed in no time.

5.5 / 10.0 - Nine Parchments

A near miss for "instant classic" that could have been so much more, and possibly could still be someday, with some quality of life updates from the developers.

5.5 / 10.0 - Valkyria Revolution
Jul 18, 2017

Valkyria Revolution never should have existed in this state. While its predecessors were a breath of fresh air in the J-RPG genre, this spin-off is as generic as it gets. At times, it seems that Valkyria Revolution is a parody of J-RPGs, taking all of the tackiest elements and poorly shoving them together.

Fate/Extella is clearly made for hardcore fans of the series. It's a hard sell to anyone that's not well-versed in the Fate franchise, and even then, the repetitive, clunky combat system and overly wordy story sections will likely drive off those that have any interest in the game.

Overall, Paranautical Activity is a flawed experience. That said, it's still a great deal of fun, and acts as a great timekiller. If you're looking for a cheap game on Switch, there are better options, but Paranautical Activity certainly isn't the worst.

Codename Steam managed to set expectations high, but ultimately was not able to deliver a captivating game. There are so many great ideas here, but most of them go without being fully utilized. Bland and annoying gameplay mechanics keep this game from being something truly enjoyable.

From what I did play of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has left me with mixed feelings. I enjoyed the story and wanted to see if Henry became a great Knight and avenged his family, but at the same time, I found myself battling against the game's systems every time it gave me control. Warhorse Studios have created an ambitious world with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, unfortunately, it didn't deliver for me.

5.5 / 10.0 - Mario Party 10
Mar 24, 2015

Mario Party has enough entertainment in it to still be a fun game to grab a couple buddies and play with, but given the choice, I'd easily pick older iterations over this title. The fact that you can go whole segments without even touching a mini-game and the hollow offerings of amiibo mode make this game a pretty big party pooper.
