Goomba Stomp's Reviews

May 6, 2018

Death Road to Canada is an addictive and fresh take on the undeniably stale zombie genre. The game's sharp writing and ridiculous events filled with personality inspire multiple runs just out of want to experiment with the different outcomes. Though the game fails to utilize a couple key features of the Switch that would've truly enhanced the player experience, it's still great fun to be had here.

The core of a fun game is there, but the fun is merely fleeting when it really should be relentless.

8.7 / 10.0 - Minit
Apr 11, 2018

Minit is a tremendous adventure which, even within its short length, makes good use of its initially deceptively simple minute-long timer gimmick. It's wholesome world and delightful design is sure to create a dedicated fan-base, and for good reason. Simply put, its a good time, sixty seconds at a time.

8 / 10.0 - Human: Fall Flat
Apr 8, 2018

There’s no denying that Human Fall Flat has charm, and the developer should be commended for crafting a good time in an unexpected setting and style – there’s really nothing else quite like it.

7 / 10.0 - A Way Out
Apr 6, 2018

With its interesting main characters and unique approach to co-op play, A Way Out will certainly be one of the year's most intriguing titles. However, the slightly by-the-numbers story and largely mediocre visuals leave in just shy of greatness.

8 / 10.0 - Far Cry 5
Apr 5, 2018

Far Cry 5 may not be perfect, but it's very close to it. Exhibiting the true meaning of AAA, it's a game that Ubisoft should be proud to have made and gamers should give pride of place in their collection.

While Detective Pikachu's core concept might be a bolt of brilliance, its utilization as an adventure game is anything but.

7 / 10.0 - Sea of Thieves
Mar 28, 2018

Sea of Thieves is a fun game that feels incomplete. It succeeds in delivering a vast and polished pirate sandbox to enjoy with your friends, but its appeal wears thin due to a lack of content. Without an overarching narrative or any kind of player progression beyond earning better quests that offer more gold for skins, there's little reason to come back to Sea of Thieves outside of having fun with a group of friends.

When all is said and done, Shantae And The Pirate's Curse is the definitive Shantae experience, and it feels just as fabulous as ever on the Nintendo Switch.

Kirby Star Allies aims for the stars, but falls short. It's a good game that lacks creativity and is incredibly brief. Despite these factors, however, it's still a good game and a good buy for fans of the pink puffball.

4 / 10.0 - Perception
Mar 12, 2018

Perception’s premise is better than its delivery. Playing as a blind character opens up many opportunities for horrifying gameplay, but Perception falls short when it comes to implementing a threatening monster.

1.5 / 10.0 - Super Seducer

An awful game who's only enjoyment is making fun of it. The advice is bad and borderline creepy at times while the production is shoddy and second rate.

I hope that Koei Tecmo learn from the justifiably negative press that the latest outing of the franchise has received almost across the board and abandon their production of endless sequels, tie-ins and spin-offs in order to reallocate appropriate talent and resources to make the next main entry in the series a game truly worthy of its own dynasty.

4 / 10.0 - Hollow
Mar 7, 2018

Unfortunately, there really isn’t any kind of gamer that Hollow would be a recommendation for. It fails on all attempts at being a horror title while also being one of the most frustrating experiences on Nintendo Switch.

The Final Station tries to do many things, but fails to deliver on any of them. It has some interesting ideas, but explores no deeper than the surface. It's a perfectly serviceable game, but you're better off looking elsewhere for a fresh and exciting experience.

9 / 10.0 - Aegis Defenders
Feb 27, 2018

Aegis Defenders is a passion project in every sense of the phrase, and it shows. From its fleshed-out world and characters, to the gorgeous soundtrack, and frantically fun gameplay, it makes for a wholly unique experience. While each individual aspect is great on its own, Aegis Defenders truly is a game that's greater than the sum of its parts.

8 / 10.0 - Mulaka
Feb 26, 2018

Mulaka achieves everything it intends to. While the puzzles are a little tedious, the complexity of the battles and the variety of tactics needed to defeat some foes make it a highly enjoyable game. The animation is cute and reminiscent of the Nintendo 64. There are a few bugs in the game but don't impact the gameplay too much.
