A Case of Distrust has very stunning minimalist visuals, strong dialogue, but lacks a cohesive story which is ultimately is the game's most fatal flaw.
A massive, engrossing, and immersive game with loads of content and an impressive attention to detail. Were it not for the myriad of bugs and issues this would be a true classic.
While joystick and button issues with Joy-Cons on the Switch give the game an unneeded layer of difficulty, Super Meat Boy plays as strong as ever and is an awesome game to have on the go.
From the built-in mythology, character animations, well-written dialogue, tight controls, and a handful of plot twists, Owlboy does just about everything right.
This version of Shadow of the Colossus is still one of the medium’s most singular experiences revamped and revitalized for 2018. Whether or not it will go down as the definitive way to experience the game remains to be seen, but it is still a wholly unique must-play for anyone interested in what games can be.
Crypt of the Necrodancer is as fun as it's ever been. Tight controls, funky soundtrack, and addicting gameplay blend together to make a game that will draw you back in, death after death.
A solid Metroidvania elevated by a unique gameplay mechanic. 'Dandara' suffers a bit when it focuses more on combat than exploration, but never strays from the path for to long. Visually and aurally pleasing, its odd world doesn't come with much narrative, but still manages to tell a story via its atmosphere.
Monster Hunter World is a hallmark entry into the storied franchise that will light a fire in the belly of any triumphant Hunter. While there are some excessively rare moments of frustration, each and every aspect of the game culminates in a viscerally satisfying cycle that keeps you coming back for more and more.
'Dragon Ball FighterZ' brings the tournament arc home in a 3-on-3 format. It's beautiful anime visuals and catchy soundtrack capture the heart and essence of its anime source material.
All of these factors blend together to form an instant classic. Celeste is a triumph and offers a staggering amount of content for its asking price.
An average RPG missing a sense of exploration and flexibility to make it memorable. The battle system is a particular highlight, however, and there's definitely some good groundwork if there's to be another game in the series.
While unique and interesting in concept, ChromaGun falls flat in execution owing to numerous flaws with its gameplay and presentation.
Even as it pays earnest homage to turntablists and beat jugglers, old schoolers and current innovators, Floor Kids is great fun, stitched together with energy, intelligence, and verve, and enhanced by a surplus of breakbeats courtesy of DJ Kid Koala.
Shu is a fun yet unremarkable 2.5D platformer. Its focus on pretty art and music over reliable mechanics and tight level design comes as a serious detriment to the game's overall playability.
'Beholder' effectively captures a dystopian society from the perspective of the middleman. The game is a welcomed addition to any indie library, despite the few flaws it contains. I highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys dystopian and task-based adventure games.
Furi is the product of a studio to watch out for and may prove to be one of the more rewarding and rage-inducing gaming experiences in many a year.
Arcade Archives: VS. Super Mario Bros. is an excellent update of a classic game. However, at $7.99, this refresh of one of gaming's greatest classics is hard to recommend to all but the most passionate fans of Nintendo's trademark plumber.
Crawl is a super fun combination of a Roguelike and a party game, that looks and sounds incredibly awesome to boot.
BRAWLOUT IS CHALLENGING, SURPRISING AND RAUCOUS FUN.
A buggy, uninjoyable mess of a game, trying and failing to emulate better titles
