Legitimate heir to Super Mario 64, Odyssey recovers its canon, structure and rhythms, and enhances them thanks to a brilliant modernization operation.

While certainly inspired by the cult-classics of the 90s, Wulverblade lacks their natural class and their inherent appeal: it's still a game that will entertain you, but one that eventually won't leave you with much more.

If Adr1ft had arrived too early, bringing with it a large load of innovation but also a lot of naivety, Lone Echo takes over the baton and represents the first real zero gravity adventure in VR. The narrative takes its time to evolve properly, while the locomotion system accompanies exploration to perfection, managing to make players feel free and agile, without any unwelcome side effects.

From Canada comes the brightest new indie superstar: a magnificent run and gun shooter, a mausoleum of pure gameplay, an ode to boundless creativity. Visually, Studio MDHR's debut title is not only one of the most impressive games ever created, but it's also a true instant classic, one that could look the masters of the genre straight in the eye. It's spelled Cuphead, it reads masterpiece.

Forza Motorsport remains one of the best racing games on the square. Turn 10 has managed, in recent years, to perfect all aspects of its franchise, which finds its excellence in the balance of the driving system. Of all the "simcades" available at the moment, Forza Motorsport 7 is the most dynamic and malleable, capable of enhancing both the realism of driving sensations and accessibility.

Larian Studios has kept all its promises, realizing a title that surpasses the previous one in every respect; from writing, to gameplay to first-class graphics. It is undoubtedly a watershed, a title with which - from now on - every role-playing game will have to confront.

And perhaps this reflection can really make us understand what The Long Dark is, in essence: the work of Hinterland Studio is the interactive and digital representation of an extraordinary ecosystem with a decisive cultural and historical value, which the authors wanted to allow everyone to explore, satisfying our playful and interactive needs, but obliging us in any case to live it in depth, with the dignity it deserves.

Metroid: Samus Returns is more than a brilliant remake of a relatively obscure cult-classic: it's a very significant moment for the whole saga, one that actually marks the rebirth of a beloved heroine after a troubled time.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is the "definitive" experience of XCOM 2, which not only hypothetically closes the circle of the development of the strategic sci-fi, but again raises the bar of excellence in the genre. The care taken in technical optimizations and in inserting content that does not unbalance the delicate balance of the challenge, shows how the developer has been sensitive to the requests of the community and has kept an eye on the development of the modding scene, adopting in his own way the features present in some of the most popular mods.

Pillars of Eternity is a title born on PC, and in some ways this conversion denounces its genesis: the interface and the summary menus are complex enough to metabolize, and the adaptation work could have been more careful, at least on this front. On the other hand, the control system has some good ideas, and after making the callus in less than a handful of hours, even the most inflexible players will be able to easily enjoy this great CRPG.

Animated by a unique sensitivity that is difficult to match, Undertale on PlayStation 4 is the same, identical miracle of writing and gameplay that has enchanted PC players. A work as brilliant as it is original, where the definitions of "right" and "wrong" acquire new meanings, and in which the impact of our decisions takes on a finally tangible value.

A quirky crossover that seamlessly blends two universes apparently far away, a compelling strategic game that despite its simplicity has a lot of depth to it (and one that could be a perfect introduction to the genre) and above all a production that truly captures that special, peculiar Nintendo feel: well played Crying Ubisoft Man, well played.

More than a simple DLC, the latest chapter of the Uncharted series, The Lost Legacy, gives us a long lasting, various and exciting adventure, clearly proving that the series is perfectly able to work even without its iconic main character.

The performance capture truly adds a special touch to the already intense cutscenes, the audio department is stunning and visually it's kind of a treat: too bad that the gameplay elements in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice are just so shallow, bland and uninteresting, dragging down an otherwise deeply fascinating project.

Patapon Remastered is actually the furthest thing from the well-deserved celebration of a glorious little cult: due to an insane amount of input lag, the game in its current state is simply not only an unplayable broken mess, but also a true offense to the immediate and unique gameplay that made the original so incredibile.

The second expansion of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn makes a full center and manages to make even more interesting a game that stoically resists the passage of time and business models. Stormblood in fact loads on his shoulders the thankless task not only of adding new areas and contents to the already alive Eorzea, but of passing a level that must equalize both the differences between the various jobs, and reduce the gap between those who can devote a lot of time to it and those who can not.

Rather than a full blown sequel, Splatoon 2 frankly feels more like an (impressive) extention of the original episode, especially if you've been splatting around since 2015. Players of the Wii U chapter will truly feel at home, with a sense of familiarity that will certainly replace the stunning surprise effect that made the franchise so unique, while the newcomers will have the pleasure to experience one of the best and most original shooters ever created (one the perfectly embodies the so called "Nintendo Difference"). That said, with more courage and better online options this sequel would have been even more impressive.

Yonder is a game based on crafting and exploration, it has clever mechanics, but it's never exciting. It's a good starting point for the developer team, which will, eventually, express its creativity in a better way.

Hunting Simulator is a title that will surely be appreciated by hunting enthusiasts, but other players could be bored after a few hours, due to its obvious defects.
