Pure Nintendo's Reviews

Projection: First Light is a game that requires patience, but if you enjoy sprawling, beautifully designed platformers, it is worth playing.

8 / 10.0 - Puddle Knights
Oct 12, 2020

Puddle Knights is a cheap, cute game that has no right to be as difficult as it is, but absorbs you completely into its fun puzzles.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a gorgeous game with fast-paced action, an enormous, beautiful world to explore and a solemn story crafted very well.

7 / 10.0 - Ellipsis
Oct 9, 2020

With its minimalist presentation and gameplay variations, Ellipsis accurately captures the positives and negatives of classic arcade games. There's not enough here to warrant lengthy gameplay sessions, but it's fun in short bursts and looks great all the while.

While this series may never be more than what it is now, Birthday of Midnight still brings enjoyable gameplay to the table. It's a pretty safe sequel that fans will get a few hours of enjoyment out of for a fair price.

2 / 10.0 - WeakWood Throne

WeakWood Throne looks charming from the outside, but it still needs a lot of work in terms of feeling like a completed game.

7 / 10.0 - Quell
Oct 9, 2020

I'm a bit more hesitant to recommend at full price, if only because the superior 3DS version is still available to buy. But the Quell series is enjoyable, and everyone should play (and replay) at least one of these relaxing puzzlers. You may find yourself hooked.

9 / 10.0 - Boomerang Fu
Oct 8, 2020

I really can't recommend Boomerang Fu enough. At $14.99, it packs a lot of replay value and is one of the stand-out multiplayer games on the Switch. I'd put it up there with other great indie multiplayer co-op games like the Overcooked series and Moving Out (Check out our Overcooked review). If you're looking for a great, local multiplayer title to play with some friends/family, definitely check out Boomerang Fu.

8.5 / 10.0 - Unrailed!
Oct 7, 2020

Unrailed! has the personality of games like Minecraft and Terraria, but it provides its own unique experience. Try out a quick gaming session with some friends, and you're likely to end up working on the railroad all the livelong day.

Overall, Samurai Shodown! 2 has come over quite well to the Switch. If you've played the original, you'll find most everything is in-tact save for the trading card send/receive system (which is understandable). Cards can still be collected in-game, just not traded to friends from what I could tell. I can think of some better fighting games on the Switch that I would probably purchase first but for a walk down memory lane or to see a classic portable fighting game in action, Samurai Shodown! 2 is certainly a fun novelty.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is a fantastic game that even 16 years later remains one of the most entertaining simulation titles ever made. Playing the game without a mouse and keyboard leaves much to be desired, and even after getting over the learning curve, it's still a murky prospect indeed. But if you simply must have a portable Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, there's plenty of thrills to be had.

Prinny 1•2: Exploded and Reloaded is a lovely piece of gaming history that holds up decently well and is still a fun little platformer to this day.

8 / 10.0 - Moon
Oct 6, 2020

Through and through, Moon is the anti-RPG. It's a satirical stab at the RPG genre. While it could have been better with a more updated look, I still find this game innovative and fresh even by today's standards. It's cute and funny and fun to play. If you're looking for a laid-back RPG, this is it. Moon is a title that reviews can't do justice to; it has to be played to really appreciate what the developers were trying to do.

8.5 / 10.0 - Othercide
Oct 6, 2020

Othercide is a unique take on the strategy game and adds a new depth with the addition of roguelite elements. Mix that in with unique design and a high risk and reward system, this game is a great place for veterans and newcomers alike.

If you love Nickelodeon shows, will make use of the online multiplayer, and find it on sale, I'd say check out Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix. But without any character clips, I feel like this game wasn't for me. It drove me crazy.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a decent fighting game marred by multiple bad campaign and transactional decisions. Like the real WWE, it's best enjoyed when you focus on what's happening in the ring and ignore everything that surrounds it.

3.5 / 10.0 - Bounty Battle
Oct 5, 2020

Can I give Bounty Battle a slight recommendation for character diversity alone? No, I can't. There are excessive issues through and through, including (but certainly not limited to) lack of fluency, gameplay variety, and depth.

7.5 / 10.0 - NBA 2K21
Oct 5, 2020

Overall, one does not have to be a massive fan of basketball to appreciate this game. Being a fan of basketball only adds to the enjoyment. If you enjoy playing sports games and are looking for a good basketball game NBA 2K 21 is undoubtedly that game to add to your collection.
