Nintendo Blast's Reviews

Nov 9, 2021

It might even be a big cliché, but it's impossible not to use the term “love letter” when talking about Mario Party Superstars. The care NDcube is finally taking with the franchise is commendable, even though it took so long to do so. Every bit of the game comes together to make Mario Party Superstars a masterpiece that reminds us of why we fell so in love with a spin-off series of Nintendo's mustached mascot.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dungeon Encounters
Nov 5, 2021

The strength of Dungeon Encounters is not in its art, but in its science. It is a unique and competent RPG in the role it proposes: to be a game focused on the mechanical essence of a dungeon crawler while reinventing the way of thinking about exploration and combat dynamics in games of this style. This is an RPG recommended for fans of the genre who especially appreciate the science behind dungeon crawlers in creative interactions between combat mechanics and group management with unique dungeon exploration.

Hermitage: Strange Case Files offers an interesting supernatural mystery experience. Unfortunately, the narrative has a bad rhythm and translation issues make it harder to understand. Despite that, if the player can ignore those issues, this is a really curious story to enjoy here.

9 / 10.0 - Tunche
Nov 2, 2021

Whether through a solid and fun cooperative mode or in solitary expeditions full of interesting challenges, Tunche's is one of the great indies of 2021. Between the rich combat and the lush scenarios, this beat 'em up hits the nail on the head by mixing the genre's features with roguelike progression. The result is an adventure that enchants with its stories based on the fascinating legends of the Amazon Forest.

Corpse Party (2021) brings to the current generation the acclaimed horror game that is still a reference in the genre. Although some extra settings could have been added in order to make the player more comfortable during the game, such as a mini map and more language options, the well-constructed atmosphere and the tension transmitted without any difficulty make Corpse Party be revisited yet another time, both by those who already know the franchise and by those who have never had contact with it.

Mainly for its vast amount of content and gameplay depth, Dying Light: Platinum Edition is a great addition to the Switch library. While not its most exuberant version, the title offers a fun and complex survival horror experience capable of entertaining for dozens of hours by magnificently mixing open world in first person with parkour and zombies. By the way, an ambitious combination that harmonizes very well with the portability of the hybrid console.

8.5 / 10.0 - Lyrica 2
Oct 27, 2021

Lyrica 2: Stars Align is an excellent addition to the Switch game library. The charming combination of modern music and eastern tradition still is a remarkable feature. Despite a few translation issues reducing the experience quality, the game is a must-have for rhythm game fans and newcomers alike.

8 / 10.0 - Evertried
Oct 27, 2021

In an increasingly competitive scenario, Evertried manages to stand out with its unique mix of turn-based strategy, grid movement and roguelite mechanics, proving to be a beautiful exponent of the interesting and growing Brazilian indie scene. Even its occasional problems are not enough to detract from a work that finds its best version on the Nintendo Switch, given its play style and the system's natural portability and flexibility. The hope is that an eventual sequel will expand the concepts presented here — the potential, like a certain haunted tower, is too great to go unnoticed.

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi is exactly what you should expect from a dungeon crawler RPG. It's an experience that's the complete package, bringing soft changes to the formula while maintaining itself simple enough to be a good entry point in the genre. Nonetheless, there are other titles that are more interesting in the market and its small issues weaken the product's value overall.

8.5 / 10.0 - Metallic Child
Oct 23, 2021

Metallic Child is one of this year's welcome surprises. With a fun combat system, immersive storytelling and an impressive visual presentation, fans of action and roguelite mechanics will find lots of fun. Even the occasional setbacks aren't enough to detract from the shine of this adventure, which proves to be a consistent addition to Switch's already plentiful library of independent games.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a project that exudes everywhere the passion of its developers for extremely competitive platform fighters, especially those from Super Smash Bros., and the ambition to create their own work that reflects this feeling and makes it evident to the eyes from an audience with a similar taste. The game works perfectly well for hardcore gamers, who are looking to competitively improve themselves in high-tech, fast-paced battles, but it's not recommended for those who just want chaotic and uncompromising smackdown fun.

In many ways, The Caligula Effect 2 (Switch) is what you'd expect from a sequel. With a fun combat system and a captivating narrative, one can notice a clear evolution of the concepts introduced in the first game of the franchise, so that even with the eventual technical problems, fans of the series and enthusiasts of a good JRPG will feel at home. Recommended.

6 / 10.0 - King's Bounty II
Oct 20, 2021

King's Bounty II is fun, but some frustrating details like the character's slow movement when exploring the world and poorly finished graphics give the impression of lack of polish and spoil the overall experience. Fortunately, the tactical combat is very good, offering nuances to explore. Studying the skills of each unit type, planning the perfect army, and thinking up strategies to make the best use of the terrain make combat like a fun and challenging board game. But unfortunately, in general, the game leaves a little to be desired.

For those who have enjoyed The Outer Worlds a lot, Murder on Eridanos is certainly a good way to enjoy your time in Bonança even more. With a vast planet, several optional missions and a good story, the trip to Eridanos is an extension that understands and explores well the universe of an RPG that already had high quality.

5.5 / 10.0 - Astria Ascending
Oct 14, 2021

Astria Ascending is far from being a widely recommended RPG, but it can please those more avid RPG fans who appreciate differentiated art and want to appreciate the potential of its systems, although points such as level design and narrative design hinders the experience.

Tetris Effect: Connected uses elaborate audiovisual aspects to turn the puzzle into a dizzying sensory experience. The simple and precise mechanics of Tetris remain untouched, and the difference is the intricate and immersive atmosphere — the combination of vibrations from the controls, soundtrack that reacts to our actions and surreal visuals results in immersive matches. In addition to being stunningly beautiful, the game includes a wide variety of creative modes and robust multiplayer. In the end, Tetris Effect: Connected is impressive and essential for puzzle fans.

Agatha Christie — Hercule Poirot: The First Cases brings an original story, but it's a worthy homage to the Queen of Crime. With a gameplay and plot that are both interesting and compelling employing logical reasoning, it's hard not to feel yourself in the actual role of a young, but eccentric detective Hercule Poirot, whose method to solve crimes is explored faithfully. Maybe it'll be better appreciated by the fans of Agatha Christie, who are already used to her narrative style, but it can be enjoyed by all police novel fans.

If you're a Dragon Ball fan and want to explore the story again in a more immersive way, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is sure to please. Some gameplay moments may show its slowness and become a bit repetitive after a while, but the experience is, in general, quite fun and complete for fans of the series.

Awaited for years, Diablo II: Ressurected brings the adaptation of a classic work to the present day without its original essence being lost in the process. The visual and sound conversion deserves praise, and the ability to instantly switch between original and remastered visuals is the definitive addition in a complete, coherent package, capable of pleasing both veterans and newcomers to the series. When venturing against evil again, it is clear that some points could be reworked, such as movement and inventory. But the truth is, even its downsides can be lightened with a little patience — just keep in mind that in the 2000s, some things were a little different in the gaming world, for better and for worse.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dandy Ace
Oct 9, 2021

Dandy Ace nails all its main concepts and ideas. It has a balanced difficulty at all levels, with a very satisfying learning curve and a replay factor that shows that Mad Mimic knows exactly where to go. The theme make the scenarios and characters wonderfully captivating, with emphasis on the PT-BR dubbing, which has known Brazilian youtubers and streamers, such as BRKsEDU, Gabi Cattuzzo and Patife, who add an extra touch of personality to this national indie scene surprise.
