75 / 100 - Train Fever
Sep 7, 2014

Even though you aren't guided to do anything, you'll easily be kept busy on an ongoing basis, as there's always new cargo to obtain, lines to create, and cities to connect. Even with the frustrating technical issues I've had with the game, I still find myself wanting to create some more transport lines.

Most likely due to the familiarity of the Second Son world I felt comfortable slipping back into it but the pull that kept me playing the first time around just wasn't there the second time. Despite that, however, the story and character of Abigail 'Fetch' Walker still kept me well invested in the game and made it an enjoyable re-visitation.

82 / 100 - SteamWorld Dig

With a perfect mix of exploration and platforming, randomly generated maps, awesome upgrades and extremely addictive gameplay, SteamWorld Dig is a fantastic game, one that I highly recommend playing.

77 / 100 - The Golf Club
Sep 1, 2014

I wasn't sure at first but eventually I really warmed to The Golf Club. At the end of the day, game play trumps presentation here. Excellent swing mechanics make the actual act of playing golf in The Golf Club quite enjoyable and the social and online features are abundant and fun. These things outweigh the technical hiccups.

87 / 100 - Madden NFL 15
Aug 21, 2014

There remains room for improvement and I certainly experienced a few let-downs with Madden 15; however, this is hands down the best Madden game to date. And let's just say the future remains bright for the franchise.

75 / 100 - Shadowgate

Ultimately, this remake does a great job respecting the original game, but bringing the visuals and interface to a modern age.

85 / 100 - Metro Redux
Aug 19, 2014

When all is said and done, this is an awesome collection and one that any gamer should check out. After playing through both of these all week long, it makes the wait for another installment just that little bit harder.

Overall, I had a great time allowing Diablo III to steal my life. With its action packed dungeon diving, very engaging loot system and allowing you the ability to sit down and play with friends on your couch as well as playing online, this game chewed up entire days of my life before I realized I hadn't eaten in 27 hours (sadly, true story)

83 / 100 - The Swapper
Aug 14, 2014

So overall, I would say 95% of this game is pure excellence. I had an absolutely fantastic time playing it and it was surprisingly long (I thought I could finish it in one sitting, but it actually took me two full nights of playing). It's just a shame that one teeny tiny detail took my impression of it from great down to good. It's still well worth playing even with the frustration, but without that minor detail it could have been one of the best.

77 / 100 - Road Not Taken
Aug 5, 2014

So in the end, Road Not Taken is a very charming and entertaining puzzler, with a deeper mystery behind it yet to be solved. I will definitely be traveling this road more than once, and you should too!

94 / 100 - Shovel Knight
Aug 4, 2014

While paying tribute to the classics, Shovel Knight still feels unique with fantastic level designs that are extremely challenging and rewarding to complete. Add to that the beautiful visuals, a fantastic chiptune soundtrack, and memorable boss battles, it all adds up to Yacht Club Games love letter to 8-bit being an experience that one should not pass by.

87 / 100 - Pushmo World
Aug 4, 2014

My experience with Pushmo World was one of pleasant surprise. I've seen previous Pushmo games from afar, but never bothered to give them the time of day. If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that it felt too short. I blew through all of the premade puzzles in little time, but this did give me more time to work on my own creations, as well as play the Pushmos of others.

Even though Sony is trying to wrangle every dollar possible out of us gamers, The Last of Us Remastered is a must buy for long time fans as well as new players looking for a great game for their PS4. I can't recommend this enough.

77 / 100 - Sniper Elite III
Jul 21, 2014

At the end of the day Sniper Elite III is a pretty good game.  From large game levels and lots of extra tasks to that non-linear approach to how you can complete said tasks and the ability to play the whole campaign cooperatively, there really is a lot to like. Let's not forget that the gruesome, but cool kill-cam is back too! Sure, the AI can be unpredictable and a bit wonky at times, the competitive online is not that busy, the story can be cliché and there is the odd visual glitch, but in the end it's not enough to overtake all the good.  Many people should find a lot to like here, and fans of the previous two games can come back knowing there is still a lot to enjoy.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition takes one of the best games last year and makes it better. If you're a platform fan, a brawler fan, an action fan, hell, if you've ever eaten a tortilla, you owe it to yourself to give Guacamelee! a try. It's smart, stylish, and funny, all while being one of the most sharply tuned games around. Better yet, it's free for Xbox One Gold members this month. Go play it.

Overall, I couldn't have been more pleased with Valiant Hearts: The Great War. Beautiful art, moving music and a compelling story that has a heart wrenching and unexpected ending with plenty of subtext for you to chew on, it was an absolute treat to play. While the gameplay itself isn't complex, the puzzles were surprisingly fun even if not overly hard. It also wins extra points from me for slipping in historical facts and subtly teaching you a history lesson.

60 / 100 - Munin
Jun 27, 2014

Overall, Munin falls into a middle of the road game for me. While the artwork, music and story were strong, the actual gameplay fluctuated between too easy and way too hard far too frequently, and the controls were unreliable enough to add to the difficulty. If you're good at spatial recognition and are interested in a cheap (it's currently on sale on Steam) puzzler that you will spend a fair bit of time on and is nice to look at, pick it up. If you're not (like me) and you're looking for something a little easier, look elsewhere.

Although more traditional than previous games in the series, Anomaly Defenders provides a flexible and entertaining strategy-light experience. It looks great, provides multiple options for players and play styles, and is challenging enough to require forethought and adaptation. Though previous Anomaly fans might be disappointed in the traditional approach, it's well worth a try for tower defense fans.

While it's a bit intimidating to newcomers, and the single player campaign can seem tedious as it relies on a tried and true formula, Worms Battlegrounds does offer a very enjoyable multiplayer experience that fans have come to know and love. Anyone looking for a fun online game to play with friends should definitely pick this up if you have the coin to do so.
