Tales of Arise Reviews
Tales of ARISE: Beyond the Dawn Edition brings the most modern title in the Tales of saga to the Nintendo Switch 2, this being a small detour on the path of remasters of the series. As a JRPG, Arise is a good game, with cool mechanics, a fun battle system and an even interesting story. Beyond the Dawn, however, is such a meh addition that it's really only worth checking out if you want to explore this world a little more.

Tales of Arise - Beyond the Dawn Edition is finally on the Switch 2, but not without concessions. The current-gen ports are undoubtedly the best way to play Arise if you have access to them. For those in the Nintendo ecosystem, you'll find better ports available. Really, though, this port is for those who missed out five years ago and now have a shiny new device that needs games, and frankly, that's justifiable enough to me because overall, Tales of Arise is a good game, only undercut by a few odd choices.
A solid mix of strong characters, great story beats, and surprisingly-engaging action-based combat help this shine
Tales of ARISE arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 in its definitive edition, including the base game and its expansion DLC. The title delivers an extremely fun and stylish combat system, accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack and a gorgeous anime-inspired art direction. However, the experience is held back by overly linear exploration, limited enemy variety, and a narrative that doesn’t reach the same level of excellence as other games in the franchise. On Switch 2, performance issues also prevent this from being, at least for now, the definitive version of the game.

Tales of Arise is definitely a home run, and as a reboot of the series, it has set the bar incredibly high for future installments. Although the game has a few significant flaws, in my opinion, it’s one of the best JRPGs on the market. The setting of this fascinating world is, in a word, beautiful; the story excels in several ways; the combat system offers so many variations that it’s hard to choose; and the many side activities ensure that you won’t just turn the game off even after finishing the main storyline.

Tales of Arise requires a massive time commitment if you want to see this excellent story through its various twists and turns to its satisfying conclusion. If you want to watch all of the awesome ‘skits’ and complete all available side quests, you are looking at spending a minimum of 60 hours with Tales of Arise. That being said, I never felt bored while playing the game. I always wanted to keep pushing on to complete one more side quest, find one more owl, catch one more fish, or uncover one more secret in this twisting Tale. After finally accepting that it was time to get some sleep and turn off the game I continued to think about the well fleshed-out characters, their individual motivations, and their overall quest. I counted down the hours until I could jump back in and continue from where I left off.
A tale as old as time
Tales of Arise modernizes the Bandai Namco brand with some evolutions but remains a cross-gen production. Dynamic combat system paired with a traditional RPG structure. Technically improved but not revolutionary. A balance between tradition and innovation, it's a solid genre representative.

One of the best JRPGs of the PS4 generation.
Tales of Arise is a notable step forward for the series, and it’s actually made me want to go back and investigate previous entries I’ll need to add to my gaming backlog. It’s full of fantastically written characters, a well developed world and drastically different biomes that assist in keeping everything visually interesting. I’ve had a great time with the game and can’t wait to see what’s next for these characters I’ve already fallen in love with.
This is a ridiculously good JRPG that will entertain you for upward of 50 hours as you explore the breathtaking environments of Dahna. If you’re looking for an addictive JRPG to sink your teeth into, Tales of Arise comes very highly recommended.
Tales of Arise is a classic case of almost is never enough. It nails nearly every open-world JRPG staple; the gameplay, exploration, characters, music and presentation are all top-notch. It’s just a pity that the story wrestles with a litany of issues that keep this entry in the Tales of series from reaching legendary status.
Tales of Arise is a fun game, but one with a bit of tonal disparity to it. One moment, you'll be searching for owls wearing goofy accessories on behalf of the owl king, and then next you'll watch in horror as a town of people is literally liquified before your eyes. As long as you try not to think too much about the stifling and nearly overwhelming amount of horror the characters have been put through, you'll likely feel like you got your money's worth of this very long and winding game. Even with some of its over-the-top plot points, this is definitely one of the better games I've played in 2021 and should be enjoyed by both newcomers to the franchise and veterans alike.
Tales Of Arise is hands down one of the best chapters of the series, as well as a JRPG able to charm a much wider audience than in the past thanks to an immediate playful system, fun and perfectly blended with a solid and well-written narrative sector.

With fast paced combat and a gorgeous presentation Tales of Arise marks a clear step forward for the long running JRPG series.
This is one of the best games of the year so far. It's a must play not only for fans of the Tales series, but also for fans of JRPGs in general.
Characters develop in fascinating ways, the story has resonance and is emphatically told, and the stylish, substantial combat make it a fantastic Japanese RPG that is free of the genre’s many trappings.
Bandai Namco introduced a new part of the Tales series, one of the most famous JRPG game series. This part contains a beautiful story, wonderful characters, fast and easy-to-understand gameplay, with a variety of tasks and activities, which gave a distinct flavor to the game. Personally for me Tales of Arise is one of the best Tales games of all time.

Tales of Arise lacks the grandiosity and polish befitting of the 25th anniversary. That isn’t to say it’s a bad game. Far from it in fact–but this franchise deserves better now that it’s in the mainstream spotlight.
What we have here is a game that puts the franchise in a new spotlight at the start of a new generation of consoles, reminding us that the Tales Of series is alive and in good hands. This linear adventure can serve as a great escape, with enough content to keep you invested for weeks, or even months. A few issues can be found in Tales of Arise, but they weren’t enough to taint my time with the game, as this is easily one of the best JPRGs I’ve played in years.
