For newcomers, Valheim 1.0 offers a complete journey from the naked arrival in the Meadows to the frozen challenges one can face during the Endgame. For veterans, the final biome and many improvements justify a return, ideally with friends or a fresh start. Valheim is not perfect, and its deliberate pacing and occasional grind will not suit everyone. But for those who connect with its particular mix of peril, creativity, and quiet beauty, it remains one of the finest survival experiences available. An atmospheric, deeply satisfying Viking odyssey that still feels special more than five years after its surprise arrival. The tenth realm has been thoroughly explored, and it was worth the long journey.

After more than 300 hours, I know Valheim well. Though somehow, it can still surprise me. That is why I suspect I will keep playing it for years.

An epic survival-crafting game with solid fantasy worldbuilding, it's a fascinating hybrid. Performance issues and uneven crossplay blight the release experience, so let's hope Iron Gate keeps an eye on this version with future updates.
The intentionality behind Valheim’s base-building mechanics makes it feel like I’m not just surviving in the world, but living in it.
Valheim's incredible sense of atmosphere, scale, and the sheer epicity of every adventure that you choose to undertake, are certainly its strongest assets. It is a shame, however, that despite almost six years in Early Access the game still lacks various quality of life features that would improve the experience – such as, for example, a cleaner crafting interface – and that it feels like the best parts of the game are still those that Early Access launched with, so many years ago.

Valheim is a generational survival crafting masterpiece that sets a staggering new high bar for the genre on PS5. Iron Gate's inverted survival philosophy, glorious low-poly aesthetic, and rewarding base building make every hour spent in Norse purgatory an absolute joy. While late-game difficulty spikes and minor terrain combat quirks introduce slight pacing stalls, its unparalleled sense of discovery, cozy homesteading, and epic co-op sailing make it an essential, defining title.
Valheim is finally hitting its 1.0 version after years of development alongside players, and it marks the start of a whole new era for the game.
But that's Valheim in one sentence: a game that hands you a goal (and a dozen better ones on the way there) and trusts you to pick whichever one you want.
While Valheim hasn't quite solved the problems of Mistlands and Ashlands, the 1.0 release still manages to be the best version of the survival crafting game with an engaging core gameplay loop, dense atmosphere, and a beautiful and unique visual style.

Its expansive worlds, exploration, survival, combat and skill progression are as addictive and immersive as ever, now in a polished final form. Valheim started out as a simple survival game and has gone on to build a community that’s completely enamored with its exploration and building systems. Not to mention that we’ve been able to experience a true Viking adventure alongside our friends or on our own. Version 1.0 is the culmination of years of development and evolution by a studio dedicated to its community and its game.

Valheim 1.0 is a triumph of Iron Gate Studio’s vision. Having already put it through its paces, we find the final release to be a game that is poetic and relaxing during quiet moments, yet ruthless, adrenaline-fueled, and epic when exploring unknown lands or facing the creatures that inhabit them. While there are noticeable imbalances in the late-game grind, they do little to detract from the vastness, atmosphere, and depth of an adventure capable of delivering hundreds of hours of pure fun. It is a must-buy for anyone who loves exploration, Norse mythology, and survival games.

Five years after the launch of Early Access, Valheim finally feels complete. The Deep North provides the world with a clear final chapter and offers enough new content to bring back experienced players, while serving as a great entry point for new players.
