Rose is a fascinating character that deserves her own, full-blown sequel, but for now Shadows of Rose is a worthwhile adventure for those looking for a little more from an already brilliant Resident Evil tale.

Resident Evil Village: Winter’s Expansion DLC offers plenty for Resident Evil fans to enjoy, from a short new story and more Mercenaries content, to a new way to experience the main story. Nothing here is without its flaws, but the overall experience is passable enough to enjoy.

An enjoyable short experience mainly because it is based on an excellent foundation, but in itself doesn't offer anything new or exciting.

Shadows of Rose is a nice addition to the Resident Evil Village story, bringing new puzzles with new gameplay mechanics. However, it uses the same enviroment as the base game and its ending is disappointing. The Third Person Mode is interesting and should please those who avoided the title for being in first person. Finally, the new characters in The Mercenaries are valid additions, but needing to unlock them is unnecessary and because of this it is possible that many players will not even see them.

The Winters' Expansion is a beautiful extension of what Village already has, offering plenty of new ways to have fun, whether that means making the base game easier or getting to punch everyone in the face as Chris Redfield. But the real tour de force here is Shadows of Rose, a storyline that offers a more psychological style of horror than the franchise usually plays in and is worth every penny.

For those who enjoyed Resident Evil Village and want to spend more time with it, perhaps also getting a hint as to where the series the heading next, the Winters’ Expansion should be considered a must-have. Shadows of Rose offers an enjoyable shot of true horror, Additional Orders invigorates Mercenaries mode with new life, and third-person mode gives players another way to experience two campaigns. For the modest asking price, why wouldn’t you want to make your copy of Resident Evil Village feel definitive?

The Winters' Expansion doesn't add content to Resident Evil Village so much as it seasons it. There's some fun to be had here, but as a whole, it's a little insubstantial.

Finally, even its ending is as unnecessary as it is lazy. It’s the post-game cutscene from the original game, and it makes even less sense being inserted at the same moment after everything that transpired before it within the new scenario. I can’t fathom how anyone could possibly argue that this DLC is not one of the weakest additional content packages out there and the cheekiest in terms of its asking price. Do yourself a favour and wait for a sale if you absolutely must play it. Please. Lady Dimitrescu is not going anywhere.

A great package that not only rounds off Village before Resident Evil 9 hits the scene, but also offers players the chance to experience the main game again.

Shadow of Rose is not only one of the best expansion packs released during the entire series, but in many ways, it is a better title than the original Village. A title that focuses heavily on fear and survival and has succeeded well in achieving its goals. Although in terms of story, the audience is not provided with a new point, but in terms of gameplay, we are dealing with a very high-quality work that is faithful to the classic versions and RE7.

It suffers from clichéd situations, recycled environments, and overly-guided gameplay. That said, it's a fairly good DLC that wraps up some loose ends, provides closure, and introduces some interesting mechanics and monsters.

Overall, the Resident Evil Village’s Winters Expansion comes with more than enough to make getting it worthwhile.

All of this makes Winters' Expansion a decidedly mixed bag of tricks, though the same could be said about Village, too. It's a bit frustrating to see just how little it moves the story forward once all is done, but one wouldn't expect Capcom to give up too much in a DLC anyway. While it's true it'll offer you a different in-game perspective, it's more effective overall at shaping perspectives of this saga's characters and the future of their storyline.

Winters' Expansion puts a definitive end to Ethan's adventure, with Shadows of Rose which I completed in about two and a half hours. I can say that I enjoyed it quite a bit and was glad to finally complete the story of Ethan and his family. However, the 20 euros that Capcom is asking for, with a campaign with such a short duration, are too much, especially if you're not interested in playing the main game again in 3rd person mode or if you're not going to bother with the updated The Mercenaries Mode.

The Winters’ Expansion is inconsistent in a way Village wasn’t, yet it still has plenty of Village’s qualities and is a decent sendoff to a standout game.

Resident Evil Village Winter’s Expansion is a solid offering that gives you great new features to enjoy the game. With new additions to the mercenaries mode (but still no option to play locally or online) and a 3rd person mode alone, give it new life. However, Roses’ story is the only Achilles heel of the whole package, but it’s better to play through it to be caught up to the Winters Expansion story, as there is potential for future story content.

The Shadows of Rose DLC is a decent conclusion to the Winters family saga. Since you can finish this expansion in around 3 hours, Capcom packed the experience full of fresh puzzles, tight corridors and monsters that want to eat your face. Quite literally. Rose’s ability to freeze multiple enemies at once and counter their attacks is balanced very well. Making for some tense encounters and puzzle-solving moments where you need to freeze specific objects on the move. However, Rose’s story is quickly over before it ever gets off the ground, and the recycling of several assets and locations from Resident Evil Village may turn off some players. But for the low price this DLC is going for, it still may be worth checking out.

Shadows of Rose is a solid continuation of the Resident Evil Village story, with minor flaws in its survival horror focus but some tense moments. The other new additions in the Winters' Expansion make an already terrific game even better, with a completely new third-person camera providing a distinct perspective on Resident Evil Village's scary story mode.

I wasn’t expecting much out of this expansion but we did get a few lore details that further expand what we know of the Megamycete and the villain using it plus more Village gameplay with a character that we might see more of later in the series. That’s a great thing.
