Critic Reviews for Clunky Hero
Clunky Hero is a MetroidVania title that manages to agree with everyone about its mediocrity. It is not a video game that stands out in a positive sense, but neither does it stand out in a negative sense. It is an enjoyable title that probably would have shined a little brighter with more thoughtful dialogue and a more simplified gameplay system regarding exploration.

It’s a tonal hodgepodge, almost completely unfunny in every attempt, but a half-decent metroidvania structure is Clunky Hero’s saving grace. Don’t expect to find magic in this fantasy land, but you can enjoy the game for how it plays.
Clunky Hero can be something you pick up for a good chuckle and a little bit of platform adventuring, but you'll soon find the game to be bland and tasteless.
In all honesty, I think the developers really hampered themselves on this one. They should have sent out the PC version to reviewers in the first place. Overall, I love the game on PC. But I have to review the copy I was given, and the Switch port just isn’t good.
Clunky Hero is a fun little metroidvania that takes jabs at one of the most overdone character stories and gives an experience full of charm and humor. However, the game does have a hitbox issue that makes the combat feel clunky and rigid and many of the jokes come across as juvenile and unfunny.
With so many Metroidvania games on the market, Clunky Hero will be drowned out by a multitude of far superior titles. Even if it has its moments, there is absolutely nothing that makes it stand out against similar, better-crafted titles like Hollow Knight or Monster Sanctuary. If anything, it’s worth picking up for a cheap laugh due to its lack of purpose.
Clunky Hero is a very humble adventure that needs more polishment to be considered a really pleasant and interesting experience. [The developers] did not pay enough attention to its gameplay, level design and audio to make the general presentation better, which ends up making the game more Clunky than Hero.

An unfortunately spot-on title for this pretty generic and troubled platformer
