Critic Reviews for Loretta

A dark psychological thriller that manages to focus on the inner world of the heroine, who has set foot on the path of evil. Not perfect, but definitely worth a look.

It’s a captivating tale, and it’s told in such a remarkable way that it does credit to its inspirations and to those it may inspire. It’s a perverse take on empowerment and justice in a world devoid of either, and it won’t sit well regardless of how you swallow it down. I don’t know what I felt in the end, about Loretta herself, but I do know that Loretta is affirmed in what she did, even if it tears her apart on multiple levels.

Loretta can create a gripping atmosphere and keep the players tense, but unfortunately the story is too brief and has no room to breathe.

Although there are flaws in Loretta's gameplay and adventure mechanics, it has a compelling story, brilliant writing, gorgeous graphics, and immersive audio that will make for an enjoyable afternoon playthrough.

Loretta’s story is one of a woman trapped in her circumstances, desperate to escape. It’s also a story about fate, where as hard as you may try to guide Loretta away from the bad thing, events keep unfolding that force you to take more and more dramatic actions and suffer her decline with her. The game was harrowing, but your actions can’t change the narrative that much – she is doomed from the first bad decision she makes. All you can do is stop her from going too far, or let her freefall.

Loretta is a highly engaging and expertly crafted psychological thriller that wears its inspirations on its sleeves. The snappy presentation and player agency manage to elevate the gripping story to a whole new level. The branching narrative and the replayability that comes with it are bonuses. An essential recommendation from Gameffine!
