Uncharted's flubs are many, but the series is keen on narrative and character - enough to see it through three games.

Three of the PlayStation 3's strongest titles remastered by BluePoint Games for the PlayStation 4. Old problems with the gunplay are smoothed over with the boost to 60fps. The best way to play Uncharted for the first time or to catch up before the release of Uncharted 4.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a very solid package that will appeal to a range of gamers who have a PlayStation 4 and who might not have any other exclusive launch to look forward to in the coming months.

An essential purchase for Uncharted newbies and the graphical upgrade makes it hard to resist for series fans too. Naughty Dog's trilogy shames the competition with exceptionally detailed levels, blockbuster action scenes and a lovable cast that will be sorely missed when the series wraps up with Uncharted 4 next year.

Unlike a number of remastered games that somehow tend to fall way off the mark, Bluepoint Games has crafted the optimum versions of each of the three titles in The Nathan Drake Collection, with Drake's Fortune, in particular, benefitting greatly from the work that has been put in in terms of visuals and gameplay. This is hardly a quick and dirty cash-grab; it is evidently a package that has seen a talented studio put effort into delivering the ultimate Uncharted trilogy experience, and the results are there for all to see, especially when going back to compare to the PS3 versions. There has been no better time to join Drake on his past expeditions and to prepare for his final adventure in A Thief's End.

Criticisms of an industry becoming reliant on dusting off classic titles may hold true overall, but on a case by case basis, Uncharted clearly proves that some games are more deserving than others.

Playing the iterations consecutively feels good and you can actually witness how Naughty Dog progressed as a story-teller. Every title absolutely holds up and can take its rightful place among current-gen releases.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is exactly what you'd expect. The first game doesn't quite measure up and could turn off newcomers (always a concern), and the games really don't have a lot of "new" in them. But really, the brilliance of this top-tier action/adventure series remains in full view throughout, and the remastering veterans at Bluepoint did a good job.
