Hot Wheels: Monster Trucks Stunt Mayhem won't be a game for everyone but there's a niche market out there that will absolutely lap it up.

One thing they never tell you about parenthood is that you should prepare to play a lot of Monster Truck video games. If that's you, you should do yourself a favour and skip straight to Hot Wheels Monster Truck: Stunt Mayhem. It's easily the best Monster Truck themed game out there right now. Most importantly, it'll keep your youngster busy whilst you wash the pots, order a food shop, and get the hoovering done – what's not to like?

It lacks the depth or variety of most Monster Truck games on console, and in particular the lack of any race modes is a bit disappointing, but the focus on younger audiences and a forgiving difficulty should make for a decent Hot Wheels experience, for those that seek such a game. The lack of almost any multiplayer, aside from the 2-player local play is a big bummer for the longevity of the game, but if you want an enjoyable solo romp to run through, it’s a good time.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem is an easygoing and accessible monster truck game, but also one that suffers from a severe lack of modes and overall variety. It’s as shallow as the puddles you use to throw your Hot Wheels miniatures into. Kids will enjoy this for a few hours, but that’s about it. For anyone else, Monster Jam Showdown has been released just a few months ago, and it offers a lot more bang for your buck when compared to this game.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem is a fun game, but the fun will sadly end faster than you think. It only includes Career, Boss, Stunt, and Destruction Modes, with the game being more of a solo experience but also offering split-screen multiplayer. It’s not worth its launch price, and you’d be better off waiting for a sale in the future.

Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem is certainly aimed at kids, that much is apparent in its bright and colorful nature and the appeal of driving these fantastical bruisers of vehicular destruction. The game’s focus of allowing you to crush cars under those massive tires and pull off wild stunts in the air is here to varying degrees and your mileage will vary if the feel and control of the game is suited to what you want from it. I think with more variety in its objectives and stunts, a clearer distinction in the environments to make them stand out, and a tighter feel to control these trucks, then Stunt Mayhem could be the Tony Hawk of Monster Truck games.
