Critic Reviews for Ballionaire
Ballionaire blends Roguelike mechanics with Pachinko to create a chaotic and clever game full of interesting builds and point scoring pegs.
Ballionaire from developer newobject and publisher Raw Fury is a masterpiece of fast and fun entertainment. It hits all the intriguing and addictive notes with its scoring and strategy while keeping it light and funny to tone down any potential frustration.
Ballionaire reinvents the classic pachinko game by introducing triggers that allow players to influence matches in creative and chaotic ways, transforming a game of chance into a dynamic and tactical experience. With vibrant visuals and light-hearted humor, the game offers exciting moments as elaborate combinations lead to unpredictable interactions and high scores. However, the innate randomness can still be frustrating, and the lack of clarity in some item descriptions makes decisions difficult, and the limited variety of content compromises the game’s longevity. Still, Ballionaire offers a unique experience for those who enjoy experimentation and strategic chaos.

Ballionaire isn't lacking in potential or variety, or well-executed animation and art style; it can manage to hit the mark sometimes. It just needs an extra push. The lack of reliance on strategy for a player is a huge part; a roguelike is something that should be mostly skill. It's what makes the grind fun, challenging, and engaging. When players find themselves starting to go through the motions, watching another ball drop and hit none of the triggers they set in place, they'll stop caring. Their eyes glaze over, and five minutes later, they're closing the game and moving on to something else. For what it's offering, Ballionaire is so close to achieving what it's trying to do. It can provide short bursts of fun and something to idly participate in while having something on in the background. It's not a bad game by any means, but it has all the right stuff going for it to be better.
Ballionaire is a charming game that is here for a good time, not a long time. It doesn’t ask too much besides wanting you to have fun. Doesn’t matter if that’s a fair weather visit, or if you get the infamous “one more run” feeling. The presentation is immediately fun and delivers a carnival-like atmosphere. The gameplay reinforces this, but also offers a surprising challenge. Exploiting synergies are the key to success! As a full package, Ballionarie personally resonated with me as a reminder what the joy of playing games is. Even if it’s sometimes frustrating, and would benefit from accessibility improvements. Ballionaire profits from earning the Thumb Culture Gold Award.
Ballionaire is a peculiar little gem that deftly mixes pachinko with roguelike elements to keep you playing run after run. It can be a bit frustrating when you’re hit with bad luck given the nature of Pachinko, but the good playthroughs make up for this with their unique and addictive fun.
