Critic Reviews for Bleach: Rebirth of Souls

The stylish animations and rich combat depth of Bleach Rebirth of Souls make it shine in a sea of run-of-the-mill arena fighters, even if a few missteps like its uneven story mode keep it from living up to the full spectacle of the adored anime series.

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls has some uneven presentation and can get overly repetitive towards the end of its campaign, but its more thoughtful combat mechanics and commitment to doing the series’ story justice make it a strong first entry in what I hope is a new series. Whether you’re a seasoned Bankai user or a newcomer to the Soul Society like me, Rebirth of Souls is sure to show you why Bleach earned its place in The Big Three.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls makes an excellent first impression, with cool, loud menu UI, amped-up music, and in-game action that looks fast and furious from a distance.

Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is the game that Bleach fans have deserved for such a long time. It's a fresh and inventive arena fighter that combines the classic energy and atmosphere of the series with a fresh, stylish, and modern coat of paint.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is a solid fighting game based on Tite Kubo's manga, perhaps the best production related to the franchise. It's not a perfect fighting game and there are some problems with online matches, but it's a solid base to start from.

There's something really compelling at the core of Bleach: Rebirth of Souls, but it struggles to emerge amidst half-baked mechanics and a general lack of depth. The game wows over the first few hours with slick visuals and a varied character roster, but it just doesn't have the content to keep anyone but the most hardcore Bleach fans hooked. While it's great to see Tite Kubo's edgy blockbuster back in action, Rebirth of Souls will go down as a flashy fighter that never realised its potential.

For fans of the franchise, it's not bad at all, but if anyone wants to get into Bleach through this product, I'd honestly recommend watching the anime on streaming platforms instead. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it's not aimed at the newer audience who just wants to have a good time with a fighting game.

The developers deserve credit – it would have been far too easy to do the bare minimum and call it a day. However, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is a legitimately compelling and well made arena fighter, that allows for some very thrilling fights. While other parts of the package are weaker and drag it down, this is the rare anime adaptation that can be recommended even to those who may not already be fans of the property.
