Critic Reviews for Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo
It's mechanically highlighted by some creative no-combat boss battles and cute puzzles, though the moment-to-moment gameplay isn't always the most exciting thing in the world. Still, there is a lot to like here, and Kulebra will have no trouble winning most players over who are onboard to discover a thoughtful indie gem with plenty of endearing dialogue.
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is an extremely unique game that has an interesting premise, memorable characters, and a wonderfully expressive art style. While the game might be a little more linear in nature, the story and the characters found throughout Limbo really helps this game stand out amidst a sea of up and coming indie titles.
Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo walks a tightrope between fetch quests, quizzes, short stealth, and traumatic stories and does it with confidence. It’s a balancing act that works well for a narrative-heavy game that explores, above all else, disappointment and insecurity in oneself. Galla Entertainment manages to do this by drawing inspiration from popular franchises while placing its own identity front and center, something remarkable for a small studio and their debut.
A variety of challenges will keep new players in the genre busy and older ones entertained through the game’s mix of comedy and tragedy. Quite literally, a good time for all ages.
It’s a great feeling to be surprised by a game that you didn’t expect much from. Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is a solid experience that kept me entertained from start to finish. The simple and fun text, the colorful and enjoyable environments to explore… everything here comes together to create an experience that you play without feeling the passing of time.

But other than that niggling issue, I had such a memorable, gorgeous time with Kulebra. A combination of Paper Mario, Coco and Undertale, this beautiful game brought me on a journey into unknown reaches of empathy, hope and utter heartbreak. It treated the player gently, touching on ideas of life after death without being aggressive or definitive, and it did so with absolute grace.
