Goodnight Universe isn’t about puzzles or complex gameplay, but about telling a story that lingers. Isaac, more than a baby with unusual powers, reflects our fears and fragilities. Despite some technical shortcomings—like missing head-tracking on consoles—the emotional core remains strong. In just four unforgettable hours, the game makes you smile, think, and even tear up, leaving behind that bittersweet feeling only well‑told stories can give.

It delivers on both those prompts, giving me a gaming experience I wouldn’t put down until I rolled credits. In a year of grand stories, unforgettable characters, and new personal favorite games, Goodnight Universe cements itself alongside the year’s best titles.
Goodnight Universe uses its innovative camera-tracking technology to continue to break the barriers between the player and the narrative, resulting in a truly immersive and emotional experience that is let down at times by the goofy turns the story takes and some frustrating timed gameplay sections. But despite its flaws, it still made me feel something I’ve never felt in a game before – unconditional love – and for that, it is a treasured and recommended experience.
Goodnight Universe does have its captivating points and the story did leave a smile on my face when I rolled credits, but that was mostly because I was finally done. There just isn’t enough here to recommend it at this point of the year at the price its being offered for, even if you played it the way it’s meant to be played–on a PC with a webcam.
