CRYMELIGHT Reviews
Crymelight is FuRyu’s rebirth and a classic example of how appearances deceive: beneath a low-budget game priced at almost €20, it hides a work with great heart—one that deserves to be played and appreciated by everyone. The roguelike gameplay works, and the challenge level is appropriate and satisfying, even if the repetitiveness starts to show after a few hours. The shift to an entirely 2D style doesn’t affect the final result at all. On the contrary, everything feels very artistically inspired, thanks also to the influence of Alice in Wonderland.

CRYMELIGHT is what happens if you remake American McGee’s Alice as a roguelike action RPG with the same thought-provoking themes and an anime design.
I went in without any expectations, good or bad, just a hunch that I may like the game based on some surface level genre observations. That hunch turned out to be more than correct; not long after starting out I found myself absolutely enthralled by the style, combat, and characters of CRYMELIGHT, not realizing just how much time was melting away until I looked up at the clock and realized I should have gone to bed several hours before. This was one of the most enjoyable times I've had with a game in quite a while. It might not be for everyone, and I know a good deal of people aren't fond of roguelikes, but if that's not a deterrent for you, do NOT skip this game.
