Of course, for some, Obliteracers just won't click. While fun, the singleplayer campaign doesn't have much of a lifespan – a problem for those who don't have the means to play online or locally with a group of friends. Then there are the raw mechanics, tuned to give Obliteracers a frantic, sometimes nonsensical feel. Needless to say, if you're looking for something similar to Mario Kart, you're in the wrong place.

All in all, Obliteracers feels like a missed opportunity. There are some great ideas buried here. But missteps with the gameplay mechanics means that this game is likely to fall behind the pack when it comes to action racing games.

Obliteracers is fast, hectic, beautiful, and a joy to play.

There are some interesting and well-implemented ideas here that make Obliteracers stand-out, but it gets drowned out amid the rest of the game which more often than not fails to make use of its unique mechanics and relies on generic tropes that have been better implemented elsewhere. There's still some fun to be had in a spare 30 minute session alone, and it excels when played with friends – but on the whole it fails to provide enough depth and variation to keep the average player Obliteracing after the initial taster.

Obliteracers is a solid and nice-looking kart racer that is ballsy enough to do its own thing. Whether it's successful or not will depend on how many people buy it, and whether those folks become invested enough to populate an online community for months to come. At this point in time, only those who love to battle friends in local action need apply.

The game plays host to a wide variety of stages and modifiers that can all be carried over to multiplayer, which allows for the creation of some really unique races

Obliteracers is one of the most fun combat racing experiences I've had in years. It's hectic, fluid, a blast to play and a treat for the eyes. The fact that it can easily support unusual control inputs, as well as the online multiplayer makes it even easier to recommend.

Obliteracers introduces some interesting ideas, but between dead lobbies and limited local options, its multiplayer core falls a bit flat on PS4. With nothing else to pick up this slack, it ends up being a game that quickly loses steam.

Obliteracers is a unique and enjoyable combat racer that's best played with pals.

It would be easy to look at Obliteracers and dismiss it as a Mario Kart clone, but you would be doing the game and yourself a disservice if you enjoy combat karting games. Obliteracers brings enough new to the table to stand on its own merits. Admittedly some aspects of the game work better than others, but the online modes are a riot and the game has an addictive quality that is impossible to ignore.

Obliteracers, while fun, seems shallow in a handful of departments; for one, there is the fact that there are about 10 or so weapons, which all get really old, really fast (most matches devolve into trying to "push" racers off of the map). Another is that there is no real "race" in the game as these are essentially linear, track based arena-style matches.

Obliteracers is a great game for intense multiplayer battles. Grab some friends and throw yourself into this chaotic racing experience full of action. You won't regret it.

Obliteracers is a top notch game, if you happen to be playing with the right amount of people. Too many, and the game suffers some deeper technical issues, and too little and you're set to gaze at it's hidden but unstable flaws. Thankfully, it's got some personality, so I would recommend it if you are looking for this type of game. In any other case, it should be considered in a cheaper perspective.

A chaotic and colourful party racing game not quite in pole position, but a close second.
