In Between Reviews
In Between is a confused puzzle-platformer with some interesting ideas but ultimately, the story held my interest more than the game itself.
In Between is full of poetic metaphors and beautiful visual storytelling, but is so bogged down by the awkward and imprecise gameplay that it's hard to enjoy playing it, even if you appreciate its artistic value.
In Between might be mistaken for just another puzzle platformer, but it's anything but. It tackles some serious subject matter with a level of confidence that is rarely seen in games today.
In Between is a good compromise between puzzle mechanics and digital storytelling. Its not a perfect product, and its not suitable for any audience, since its difficulty nerve-racking at times could discourage less stubborn players. But its still a heartfelt, challenging and fulfilling game.

Mind-bending puzzles, a touching narrative, and fantastic voice acting make for a very moving game.
Overall, In Between is a stellar title. It’s a refreshing take on the platformer genre in a market that is saturated to breaking point.
There are some puzzle bits that could've been formed better, but it is a fantastic game in the grand scheme of things. All in all, this is one of those games I would recommend putting on headphones for and kick it back in handheld mode. The intensity of some individual moments are really well suited for a personal display.
In Between is definitely a solid effort at providing players with a riveting story.
All games have their negatives and positives but with In Between the two can conflict and impact the player.
In Between is thought provoking and capitalizes on its creative concept. The heavy subject matter does not lend itself to be a casual gameplay experience, and it could be upsetting to an unsuspecting gamer.
In Between gets some pretty major elements right with its unique, sadly beautiful presentation and storyline. It makes for a compelling experience that is easy to recommend because so few games really do a good job of tackling such heavy material. The matter in which In Between handles the weight of impending death is both unique and satisfyingly weighty emotionally. However, for everything In Between does well as an experience, there are some basic elements of gaming where it does not always succeed. The creativity behind using the stages of grief to create unique levels is inspired, but the controls are finicky and there are a few issues with the game's timings that hold it back from greatness.
The story showcased here with In Between is a heartbreaking one, especially if you have something to draw on in your life that can put you in the protagonist’s shoes, even just a little bit. The way it all comes together, the levels, the emotion, the ending, they all help tell a compelling narrative and gives the game an engaging experience that I think anyone who enjoys puzzle games should check out. I don’t know where this idea came from, but it’s one that is remarkably well done, and I’m so glad it was made.
