Overall, then, Binaries is a decent puzzler that is definitely worth the time of players who can't resist having a ‘100%' icon plastered over their save file and enjoy speed-running through dangerous levels. It doesn't tend to innovate past its main theme, though – instead relying on more obstacles, spikes and guns to make things trickier. If you're desperate for a puzzle game that will have you trying to complete levels over and over again (before feeling a huge amount of satisfaction when you finally complete one you've been stuck on), then this may well be for you.

Despite being a fun game, Binaries’ Super Meat Boy gameplay style doesn’t quite fit a puzzle game like this. Mainly due to our feeble human inability to monitor two characters at once.

A nice puzzle game that sometimes surprises the player, but doesn't achieve to offer something new or flashy.

Binaries features a good idea and an interesting concept in a genre that is already heavily represented in the Nintendo Switch catalog. What it does less well is the way it implements its difficulty level, which gets too much protagonism for its own good and can make the gameplay experience more frustrating.

Binaries doesn’t break new ground in the puzzle platforming genre, yet there’s well enough of a challenge (and fun) in this package for one to waste a few hours with.

Ant Workshop have created a tightly focussed title with a clear ethos and a truly original game mechanic. The difficulty may be off putting for some, but it’s intrinsic to the game. It knows it’s hard and doesn't apologise for it. I found it off putting, but I'm notoriously lacking in patience. Considering the £7 price tag, unique play style, great sense of humour and the many hours of potential replayability it’s well worth a purchase.

It may seem indecisive to say that this game is not going to be for everyone, as that's pretty much a given with any title. Binaries is distinct in that it's one of the rare titles that is incredibly fun, but a little commitment will be needed to find it. To the unexposed eye, it's just another hard puzzle-platformer. Scoop that dirt away, dig deep enough, and Binaries is an absolutely brilliant title that manages to be both enticing and rewarding.

Overall while I enjoyed my time with Binaries it really just proved to be too frustrating to have to control both balls at the same time. Yes the game is beatable for me which is more than I can say for other games such as Super Meat Boy but getting the S rank seems just as hard as those other games. I really think much like those other brutally tough games that Binaries isn’t for everyone. If you are a fan of hard puzzle/platformers or just want to try something a little bit different I do recommend picking it up.

Binaries is certainly a unique and challenging platformer that often feels like a puzzle game.

Binaries is definitely a nice addition to the ever-bulging collection of indie games appearing on the Switch. If you are up for a challenge then this is defiantly the game for you, expect lots and lots of death and don't play with anything breakable in the immediate vicinity.

With 101 increasingly fiendish puzzles, seeing Binaries through to completion will inevitably feel like the mightiest triumph over adversity. Those with the tenacity to push on through will enjoy continually chipping away at overcoming the game’s nightmarish levels, but those looking for a less punishing experience should perhaps consider checking out other contenders in the puzzle genre on Nintendo eShop. It’s all up to you.

Putting it all together Binaries is a very well-made and presented action puzzler that, overall, sits pretty high on the challenging scale. If you enjoy some punishment in your games it delivers that handily and throws in some laughs to boot! If you’re not as hardcore about your gaming it would be a tough call as there’s no missing the difficulty of the game, though the humor and ability to choose different paths to avoid specific levels that give you pain do help make it at least a little more friendly to a wider audience.
