But that's the thing with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch. On Wii U, the game was over when you stepped away from your television. As the saying goes: You can't take it with you. But now you can. Now, the game is only over when you—or the baby—says so.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe makes the small changes needed to differentiate itself from its inferior Wii U version. It's a worthy purchase regardless of the time you've spent playing the same tracks on the Wii U, as the battle mode will keep you entertained for years to come. For any fan of local Mario Kart multiplayer, this is a no brainer. Still, I can't fully recommend buying it for online play until Nintendo resolves poor connectivity issues.
If you already own Wii U and know Mario Kart 8 there's not much reason for you to buy it again. But in case this is your first encounter with this series and you have a bunch of gamer friends to spend time with, it is a must buy for you. Yet another great game for Nintendo Switch.

Even for those who own the original Mario Kart 8, after re-evaluating my score, I'd still give the game an 8 overall, and I think that says a lot about what's actually in the game. Plus, we have the Splatoon inklings, Zelda's Link, and Animal Crossing characters available altogether now, without being in a Smash Bros game. Really, what more do you want?

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gives players the full package right from the starting line. With an enormous roster of both characters and raceways to select from MK8 Deluxe brings over all of the content from the Wii U edition of the game and then goes and adds more content. While those wanting the single player experience might not find too much to race for, as a multiplayer title this is a great one to challenge your friends to.

It takes Mario Kart 8, an absolutely fantastic game, then improves upon it by offering the sort of Battle arenas and experiences we adored in previous games, the ability to play it anywhere in any way, and various quality of life adjustments. Everything has been tightened, fine tuned and is firing on all cylinders. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't just here to help you coast through the launch window, it is a game that will offer comfortable cruising for years to come.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is another must have title for the Nintendo Switch and is a racer that is accessible by everyone, whether a veteran gamer, casual gamer or even someone who has never played before. So if you're looking for some great racing fun on the Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on all levels… it's a me, Mario Kart!
There's enough content here even if you've already played Mario Kart 8, thanks to its impressive and addicting new Battle Mode, or even the four additional Cups in case you've never bothered to buy the DLC for the Wii U game.

If you are just jumping in for the very first time, prepare to have your mind blown away. A true modern multiplayer classic, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe stands as one of the greatest games that Nintendo has ever made.
Overall though, there’s not a lot I can fault Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for. It’s a remake, sure, but it’s also the best the series has ever been and now a family favorite in my house. Oh, and I barely even mentioned the return of the excellent Battle Mode and all its arena-based kart combat fun. This one is highly recommended, and I only hopes Nintendo releases more content in the future.
