Outlast II Reviews
Never have I ever played a videogame as darkly disturbing and morbid as Outlast 2. I will be having nightmares for at least a month. The gameplay is simple yet complex and relies on you being able to keep your nerve. As much as I was horrified of the sights I saw in the game, I was enthralled on how well represented the visuals were. I wanted it to end and yet I wanted more. I was terrified and confused but boy did my adrenaline spike at every chase sequence.
Its trial and error gameplay is going to irritate plenty of players, but once Outlast 2 has you, it's a nightmare that you won't be able or want to wake up from.
The original Outlast was effective for a variety of reasons, from its excellent use of lighting and sound design to a genuinely creepy setting and story. The sequel title tries to ramp things up by making the story even more twisted, and the overall experience is still a solid one, if it has not really evolved much from its predecessor.
Like its predecessors, Outlast 2 solidifies Red Barrels Studio's skills to create a good horror and suspense game. This sequel has notable technical and graphic enhancement thanks to a jump to Unreal Engine 4, but I regret that it still rely too much on a trial and error method, that sometimes frustrates players more than it scares them, but all in all Outlast 2 is exactly what you want the game to be... One hell of a scary adventure.
Of course, your helicopter malfunctions and crash lands around the area. You come to with nothing but your camera at your disposal, and so the terrifying search for your wife begins.

Outlast II changes its focus on the “clasic” terror formula that worked well in the first game, for a more psychological twisted atmosphere popularized by P.T. While the places you go through and the jump scares are good, the gameplay can´t keep up to make a great experience. An average game that could have been much better with minor changes.

Outlast 2 is a perfect blend of gore, atmosphere, tension, jump scares, creepy people, misery, adrenaline, despair and an unforgettable plot. One of the scariest games you will ever play.
The game is gorgeous and sounds amazing, but there is no meat on the bone. 10 hours of running and hiding is not fun at all.
Outlast 2 take its story to a whole new level, but it also undermines it by relying too much on chase sequences instead of letting the player explore some areas at their own pace.

The greatest horror game to date.
Outlast 2 is what I hoped it would be. It’s horrifying, dark, gritty and disturbing. I was left wondering how the concepts that are implemented into this game were even conceived. After the team at Red Barrels gets a chance to relax from launch I think they should all check into a mental health wellness retreat just to clear their heads of the horror they created for our enjoyment. I also particularly enjoyed how Outlast 2 pays homage to other games in the industry such as DOOM and Mortal Kombat, this adds a rather quirky element of humor to these moments in the game. The new mechanics introduced are a major plus, the added layers to the storyline bring a new element to the franchise, and the sense of fear and dread are almost overwhelming at times. Well done Red Barrels, you smashed it out of the park and I will be sure to forward an invoice to you for the many ours of lost sleep I can look forward to from ANY noise I hear in the dark for many weeks to come.
Outlast II remains true to their formula of fearing the dark while being surrounded by maniacs.
Outlast 2 is a lesson in the first-person horror genre and Red Barrels has shown us that they can make lightning strike twice.
The game wastes no time diving you into a blood soaked desert filled with crazy cultists and weird happenings. The main mechanics revolve around you reaching the end of the game while recording and documenting the events around you. Filling everything you can and piecing the story together. This differs slightly from the original game where recording and event can be viewed on your camera with a dialog over the event. Outlast 2 really tried to up the game of its storytelling and I like that.
