If you're a fan of the Princess Maker series you'll already know whether or not Princess Maker - Faery Tales Come True is your bag. You'll probably be able to overlook the complete lack of tutorials, abysmal translation job, sometimes backwards attitudes towards women and repetitive nature and get down to enjoying a strange little sim/management game that's unquestionably suited to the portable nature of the Nintendo Switch.

Princess Maker 3 is both funny and charming, and the core gameplay loop, limited as it is, is compelling if only because there are so many different endings to aim for that the game both encourages and rewards people that experiment with it.

Princess Maker is a tough series to get into. The horrible translation is enough of a barrier to entry on its own, but the total lack of tutorials to explain the complexity of the different stats only serves to make the game very difficult for newcomers. If you manage to get over that steep learning curve, there’s a surprisingly deep simulation game waiting on the other side, but it is a tough sell with a mediocre localization of one of the more middling entries to the series.

With all its technical issues aside, Princess Maker 3: Fairy Tales Come True is still a blast to play. Getting to finally hear what your daughter likes and dislikes makes for a far more natural system. The streamlined scheduling prevents things from becoming too slow, while the adorable isometric pixel art breaths a whole new life to the world. And while it doesn't bring back every cool element from its predecessors it brings enough new things to the table to make this installment feel fresh. Still, it might be wise to wait until the game is patched to fully enjoy this classic.

The game's configuration remains the same as its original title release of 23 years ago and also keeps the same vibe and atmosphere along with higher resolution and FHD quality visuals. Definitely worth a play with a touch of sentimental value.

Princess Maker 3: Fairy Tales Come True is a fairly enjoyable life simulation game that lets become a parent and guide a young girl to adulthood. Even though it's a bit sparse on information, that gives it a certain charm. The game is very quickly revealed to be quite shallow and non-interactive after you figure out most of the mechanics, though.
