It's not perfect, but Chicken Wiggle tickles the creative part of my brain that loves drumming up platformer levels when I should be doing actual work. The campaign can be better, a lot better, but the hours I'll spend with this game will not be going back over those levels. I'll be spending them making my own little masterpieces and that's the part this game mostly gets right.

To bring it all together, Chicken Wiggle definitely feels part of the Mutant Mudds and Xeodrifter family but more like a little brother that hasn't fully grown up yet.

Chicken Wiggle may have a lacklustre proposal for a main mode but its online component and level editor make all the difference. If a retro-styled 2D platformer is hardly something very original nowadays, Chicken Wiggle's additional elements beyond its main story turn out to be the game's big surprises and push it beyond a level where it would not quite stand out.

Overall Chicken Wiggle is a wonderful inaugural release for the folks at Atooi. Sales have been low on this one, but with millions of 3DS and 2DS handhelds on the market there's no excuse for that; go support the game and give it a download!

Chicken Wiggle is an intuitively-designed, tightly-controlled 2D platformer that has the potential for an unlimited amount of content. 3DS owners that pick this game up are getting a great value, despite a few minor issues that I had with the game. Atooi has once again crafted a fine, challenging platformer that is easy to recommend to any fan of the genre.

In the end, I was very happy with Chicken Wiggle. While comparisons to Renegade Kid’s previous works are unavoidable, I felt it differentiated itself enough and more than made up for any deficit with the expansive Level Editor. While it’s true I was a little disappointed by the total lack of unlockable content, I found myself drawn into this strange new world, and desperately hoping for a bigger and crazier sequel. Atooi has proven it still has that magic touch when it comes to retro styled platformers, and I hope this is just the first of many successful new games. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have more levels to make!

Chicken Wiggle is a fun action platformer, with an average length Single Player mode and a moderately enjoyable level editor for you to be creative in. While this game does have one major advantage from the 3DS Mario Maker in that you can actually share your levels online, there really isn’t much of a point to the level editor outside of checking out some new levels every now and then to extend your playtime, but your mileage could heavily vary on the quality of the levels.
