On PS4 Pro RedOut is a great, rich and frantic racing game. On the other hand, on a standard PS4 or on Xbox One there are some annoying frame rate issues.

Redout: Lightspeed Edition is a decent, if unambitious effort that will satisfy anyone looking for a fix of accomplished and blisteringly fast sci-fi racing.

For the price of entry, Redout sticks out as a great entry in the futuristic racing genre.

The latest in a long line of zero-grav racers, Redout: Lightspeed Edition is one of the best examples of the genre. It takes the best elements from those that came before it, and throws in some of the coolest things we've seen out of a racer in some time. The stitched together Boss Races are a particular standout, offering a phenomenal look into many of the tracks from the title all at once. Throw in beautiful level design with an exceptional colour palette, as well as great music and the best feeling of speed in the genre, and Redout comes away with 1st place among zero-grav racers for now.

Taking massive jumps over vast gaps are a visual treat but it is damn near impossible to judge the landing while you're in the air…

RedOut: Lightspeed Edition is an amazing experience that came out of the blue for the fans of anti-gravity games. It offers countless hours of fun, challenging physics, and an unique style that breathes nostalgia in every frame. Do not hesitate to try it out if you have the chance, you may end up falling in love with this little diamond.

I for one would love to see the return of anti-gravity racers to the market once more, but Redout simply doesn’t provide the same magic seen in previous titles in the genre, and with a hefty price tag to accompany it, this is probably one headache we can all do without.

Redout: Lightspeed Edition is a good pastime for fans of the zero gravity, faster than light racers, but it doesn't manage to be much more than that. Even if you forget every other title in the genre, the weak controls and, occasionally, subpar graphics, don't really sell the game up too well. Overall, this functions as a good way to kill time once you get the hang of the controls, but it won't really suck you in beyond that.

The core racing model is a fluid rush, and a thrill to control through an intriguing, if undercooked world. It’s to 34BigThings’ credit that they make known where their crosshairs are trained, but the bite is that much harsher when they miss their mark.

Redout: Lightspeed Edition attempts to fill the void that the big guns aren't willing to. For the most part it does a great job: massive speed, funky anti-gravity racing ships, mind-bending tracks - even some electro music for those who're fans of it. That being said, it's let down by its poor technical performance. Apparently it runs fine on the PS4 Pro, but if you're rocking an OG or Slim PS4, you're gonna have to live with dodgy frame-rates until an update is released.
