Ys: Memories of Celceta does it's best to put the spotlight on the series narrative, but the adventures of amnesiac Adol barely hold a candle to the fast and frenetic combat of the game. What seems like a mindless hack-and-slash on the surface quickly becomes a palm-drenching test of patience through its punishing and satisfying boss battles. Even if you come to Ys: Memories of Celceta looking for a trip through the lore of the franchise, you'll likely end up staying for that classic, addictive Ys combat.

What we have in Ys: Memories of Celceta is a game that has dated graphics and an okay presentation, but phenomenal music and gameplay. This is one of the finest action JRPGs I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. Don’t let its immediate blandness fool you, this is a must play that should stand by giants like The Legend Of Zelda and Final Fantasy series. It’s only 2/3 the price of an average game, and comes with a soundtrack and art cards. What more could you ask for?

Ys: Memories of Celceta is certainly a mixed bag whilst it doesn't really bring anything new to JPRGs, but then again it doesn't have to. Years after its initial release the accessible combat system and enthralling battles make this still a hard one to put down. Nihon Falcom should have really taken advantage of PS4 performance power to give the fans a visually pleasing game. However players should look past it’s failings as there is so much depth to be discovered, making Ys: Memories of Celceta a must have for any action JRPG lover especially if you’re new to the series.

Ys: Memories of Celceta improves on the issues the Vita had in regards to performance. However, the way the game on a home console isn't quite as forgiving as it was in its original form. This is still a fun Ys romp, as all of them have been, but it changes so very little.

Ys Memories Of Celceta is yet another excellent entry in the action role-playing game series by Falcom, taking everything that made Ys SEVEN good and elevating it to new heights. Even with its small issues, such as low difficulty level and unoriginal story, Ys Memories Of Celceta is a game that all fans of fast-paced action RPGs should experience at least once.

If you are new to the series, you can certainly start with this title as it acts as one of the firsts in the series as well as the useful trope of amnesia is cleverly used to let players discover the world as the character does so as well.

Memories of Celceta is a perfect onboarding point for anyone looking for something more exotic than the ATB system, but with the look and feel of a classic game of that bygone era. It’s engaging, satisfying, and perhaps most telling of all has me excited to check out other entries in this storied franchise.

There's no revolutionary story, gameplay, or graphics here, but Ys: Memories of Celceta is still super satisfying to play through.

Ys: Memories of Celceta features a thrilling combat system and wonderful score that will please anyone in search of a classic-style JRPG. Although its party AI is wonky at times, this Ys IV remake is a must-buy title for role-playing game fans.

The PC version of Ys: Memories of Celceta polishes the blazing fast combat, rocking music, and fun-to-explore environments of the original to a shine and is a must play for fans of the series.

Ys: Memories of Celceta doesn't shine quite as brightly as it did when it was a handheld exclusive, but it's perfect for fans of the Ys series and anyone looking to speed through a shorter JRPG

While there are things that hold Ys: Memories of Celceta back, the main concepts are good. It won't take long to be interested in where the story is going and combat is a good mixture of mindless fun and tactical planning. It's unfortunate it feels rather floaty and weapons are weightless, along with characters moving at an unnerving speed but if you can overlook these shortcomings and the dated graphics, you'll likely have an action RPG you'll want to explore and complete.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is a good port on the PC, but weak visuals and a forgettable story hold it back.

Although this is probably not the best version of the game (the PC one has better graphics and the original on Vita was portable), Memories of Celceta remains a fast paced action RPG good for all seasons.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is a good game. This PS4 port just doesn’t do enough to make it stand out in the current market, however.

Although Ys: Memories of Celceta is not my favorite Ys game, it's certainly a very decent experience for action-rpg fans to enjoy. Getting into the game you can expect a full on fast paced 25-30 hour adventure, that honestly if you can get past the story you will never bored of it because of the battle system. Ys usually does certain things so good that you can try to ignore the shortcomings, with Memories of Celceta the overall experience is certainly very positive.

A perfectly serviceable if underwhelming remaster that brings the Vita game to the PS4. A fine RPG that will keep you entertained but it's definitely not the best the Ys series has to offer. A bit of a missed opportunity.

Ys: Memories of Celceta can't quite compete with the heavyweights of the genre, mainly because of it's shallow story, but still offers enough entertainment through its gameplay to be considered a decent experience.
