Hypercharge: Unboxed is a joyful, colourful, and creative shooter that knows exactly what it is, and absolutely nails the execution. It’s not a groundbreaking reinvention of the genre, but it never needed to be, especially with its refreshing break from realism that offers a colourful and chaotic celebration of childhood imagination and toybox warfare. I loved it. With its polished and strategic gameplay, rewarding design, and bucketloads of childhood charm, it’s an easy recommendation – especially now that PlayStation players can finally get in on the fun too.

Hypercharge Unboxed shooter Hypercharge starts with an interesting premise, that of toys come to life, and manages to build good levels around this concept, but it remains too anchored in old design quicksand, with a horde tower defense loop carried over equally from games of two generations ago, so much so that it very quickly becomes stale and uncomfortable. The shooting and movement mechanics do not live up to the genre and waste the potential put on the table by the level design, which is instead thoughtful and challenging in terms of explorability. The co-op component is completely unable to counter some of these stumbles, a flaw on which we must pile an insufficient bot companion AI and a PvP component that is probably dead in the bud. Hypercharge Unboxed is a big “Too bad!”, in short, but never too big a mistake not to allow the Brits at Digital Cybercherries to learn from their mistakes and deliver, why not, a 2.0 version that fixes some of the game's basic problems.

Hypercharge: Unboxed has been an absolute delight in being one of the only true gaming experiences that allow you to really relive your childhood. The battlegrounds are filled with so many toys that I remember playing with to set pieces and encounters that feel ripped directly from my memory.

Not only has playing this game filled my brain with vivid and fond visuals of being a kid in the 90s, but it has also brought me core memories with my 6-year-old son. Being able to play split screen with him and laugh and spend quality time with him whilst having the best fun, is what Hypercharge Unboxed is all about. Digital Cybercherries has managed to tear my child away from the domination of Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft and he now craves time on this with his Dad and “just one more game” before bed. I can’t thank the team enough for bringing this to consoles and making it accessible to those without a PC. So, I have to grant Hypercharge Unboxed with the perfect score and I have several reasons for this. It sits on the pedestal of indie greatness that very few achieve alongside stunners like Cuphead and Vampire Survivors. In the three quality weeks I have had to review this, I have racked up over 50 hours of gameplay and I’m nowhere near done. It is a game that will be cemented to my hard drive for years to come because it will now be the couch co-op go-to game of choice and the closest feel to the best shooters on old-generation machines, a salute to classics like Timesplitters and the early Halo titles. If you don’t purchase this game at a very reasonable price point, you’re missing out on one of the best games to come to Xbox in 2024.

Reject modernism, embrace Hypercharge: Unboxed, as it is the definition of fun. The campaign doesn't take itself seriously and has free roam and difficulty options to offer you an experience you can customize. With so much enemy variety and a collection of great bosses that spice things up. Every level is filled to the brim with so much detail and extra stuff to do. As well as a ludicrous amount of customization you take advantage of for your character. Despite some of the menu clunkiness and the reusing of bosses, and the default controller scheme being weird. It is an experience I cannot recommend enough, especially at its very generous price tag on each platform. You owe it to yourself, as you can feel like a kid and just have fun, and in the end, that is what games should be.

Hypercharge Unboxed is a shooter that manages to entertain thanks to horde co-op gameplay with tower defence mechanisms. The fact of using action figures as characters makes the whole thing even more surreal, even if in terms of content something more could have been done.

Hypercharge: Unboxed taps into your inner child and brings those dreams of your toys coming to life. It’s inherently goofy, but that’s what makes it enjoyable. Even with outdated systems in place, you’re bound to have a good time.

There are not enough action figure games. Accordingly, HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed does a great job of ticking that box. If you cherish collectathons, and you adore shooting titles, then this is the game for you. Moreover, the ability to play this solo or with friends cooperatively or competitively enhances the gameplay experience. Consequently, I love this whacky, fun, and nostalgia-infused game. Missing this title would be madness! Madness, I tell you! As such, don’t be foolish and buy

HYPERCHARGE Unboxed is a solid co-op shooter with a nice compliment of MP modes. The base game is $30 and if you have friends to play with you’ll get a week or two of fun out of the campaign as you try to unlock everything. It’s never bad, it’s never great, it’s fine.

An incredible nostalgic aesthetic and straightforward gameplay model are endearing in the best way but start to feel thin all too quickly.

Hypercharge: Unboxed is an exceptional shooter that has a lot to offer the gaming audience. The impressive gameplay can tie many a gamer to his or her seat, while the original artwork sets the title apart from other games of a similar nature. All of this is complemented by unorthodox designs, breathtakingly detailed maps and fun online matches. While I could find a few flaws, it doesn't change the fact that this is an enjoyable venture that is definitely worth your time.

This isn’t your typical shooter! Instead of fighting in a war-torn country or against alien civilisation, you’re fighting amongst chairs, beds, kids toys and furniture within a massive house. You’re a toy… well, actually you’re an action figure with the single goal to protect multiple strange coloured cores known as hyper-cores that are located around each environment.
