Critic Reviews for Reed Remastered

This platformer has plenty of levels to go through, most of them short ones, with varying levels of difficulty but sometimes their design feels too unbalanced, as if they were artificially tweaked to harden the circumstances. If its art style is commendable, the game's repetitiveness and short lifespan make it something more adequate for short game sessions, rather than an in-depth experience.

Reed Remastered doesn't do much of anything to leave a positive impression. Platformers (even one-hit-kill ones like this) are a dime a dozen on the Nintendo Switch. How does this one hope to stand out with the multiple ways it comes up short? I was hoping for better; I didn't have fun playing it.

While there are quite a number of budget puzzle platformers on the system, depending on your tastes or preferred method of play they’re not all created equal...

Reed is a fun, fast-paced platformer with enjoyable level design, but the content just isn’t there. While Gravity Duck sports more levels, it’s far more boring and dull, not benefitting from the good level design found here. On the other hand, even the hidden secrets in Reed aren’t enough to make this a replayable experience, so while it’s a fun romp that controls very well, it’s more of a one-and-done you’re probably better off enjoying on sale.

Reed Remastered is a remaster (and port) of the Reed mobile game developed by pxlink. It’s a simple yet stylish little platformer that comes close to its potential, just about makes that jump, but ultimately falls flat in the spike trap.

A simple game where platforms and obstacles pose the greatest challenge. It is very short, barely an hour and a half long, and its repetitiveness becomes palpable after the first levels. An ideal game to entertain yourself for a while at a low price, but you can't ask for more.

I know that I’ve spent the last few paragraphs criticizing Reed Remastered but I do want you to know that it’s a worthwhile experience if you’re a fan of platformers. I took it to task mainly because I think with some adjustments it could have been a solid game for the Switch. As ports go, it is well done and is a good game to begin with. Because of this, it could have been so much more and the steps to becoming more would have been few.

Reed Remastered is a nice, simple platforming game. It's not that easy all the way through though. Reed Remastered requires quick fingers and thinking ahead. And the best part? It's a cheap completion.
