Nintendo Will Take Extreme Measures To Prevent Piracy And Console Modding

Nintendo now reserves the right to brick your console if you violate their user agreement.

If you have a Nintendo account, you will be receiving an email soon (or you’ve gotten one already) asking you to agree to an update to their Nintendo Account Agreement. Or, like me, you might have seen a notification pop up when you tried to launch a game on your Switch today.

You may not have thought to read it, as people usually tend not to read these agreements, but this one makes some significant changes to impose severe penalties for what Nintendo considers to be unauthorized use.

That mainly includes hacking and modding the console and games; anything that circumvents Nintendo’s account system and rights control.

The possible penalties now include, at least in the US, rendering the account or console “permanently unusable in whole or in part.”

Nintendo’s Neverending Fight Against Piracy

The updates to the user agreement (spotted by Game File) are extensive. The new version, copied below, is much more intense than before, and new additions include the entirety of sections B, C, and D, as well as the final sentence.
