Borderlands 4 Is Yet Another Example Of The Collector's Edition Not Including The Actual Game

When Borderlands 4 launches September 12, the latest installment in the Borderlands franchise won't cost $80, as it was revealed on Monday that the game will start at $69.99. That's a major relief, especially considering the tension that a potential $80 pricetag created.

That said, when the game does launch, its premium Collector's Edition, which will be exclusive to GameStop and retail at $149.99, won't include a copy of the game.

It will, however, have a map, Echo-4 figure, a SHiFT code, a necklace and some art prints. Adding the $69.99 base copy of the game to the total gives fans a $220 pricetag. Not bad, but hardly any savings that usually come with getting a Collector's Edition or similar bundle.

That said, it wouldn't be the first time a Collector's Edition outright didn't include the game. In fact, it's part of a rather interesting growing trend.

As a physical game collector, the future seems dire.

Most recently, the long-rumored remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics revealed that its Collector's Edition doesn't include the game, but customers are free to "add" the game to their cart in order to "bundle" the two together. Square pulled a similar stunt a year...
