Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced in 2019, and then it was essentially years before we heard anything else. The game's lack of updates gave fans a lot of anxiety about whether it was facing development troubles, financial woes, or general issues. With Silksong finally releasing in just two weeks, developer Team Cherry has revealed exactly what took so long, and the answer is surpisingly simple.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry Co-Founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said the lengthy development had nothing to do with development troubles or unexpected hurdles. It took so long because they wanted Silksong to be the exact game they wanted it to be, and, with a small team, it took a long time, with Gibson saying: “It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing."
Gibson and Pellen were quick to put fans' minds at ease that the game had any development issues, also saying: "There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.” Team Cherry quickly realized that the scope of Silksong was going to be just as big or larger than the original Hollow Knight, with them noting how the game kept getting bigger, saying: “...the quest system existed.
