Yakuza fans aren't a happy bunch at the moment. Thanks to Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku's refusal to acknowledge anger over the casting of Teruyuki Kagawa, an actor with a history of sexual misconduct, Yakuza fans have been slowly turning on the studio that could seemingly do no wrong just 12 months ago.
Coupled with the controversial delisting of the original Yakuza 0, and changes being made to the original Yakuza 3 in the upcoming remake, it seems like both Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku are trying their best to turn themselves into a cartoonish Yakuza villain in the eyes of fans. Now, they may have made things even worse, as Sega is now seemingly going after fan-made Yakuza merch.
Over the past few days, fans that have been selling their own Yakuza-themed merch on Etsy have seemingly been having their items taken down. A user on Twitter called Miyari claims that Sega of America is the company behind the takedowns, and that it's been claiming IP infringement to justify its actions. Exactly why Sega has chosen now to start taking this kind of stuff down, despite having allowed it for years, is currently unknown.
