Earlier today, we got a release date for Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition's Switch 2 port, as well as the reveal that Oblivion Remastered would be joining it on the platform. Admittedly, the visuals did not look great, but some compromises are to be expected with these ports. Now, it turns out we have to make another compromise.
Physical copies of Fallout 4 and Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 won't really be physical copies at all. Instead, they will be released as a code-in-a-box, a practice that has been controversially adopted by a few Switch 2 releases.
This was confirmed by Bethesda after the initial announcements at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. Here, we're told that physical releases will come after the digital release of both games. But even with the extra time, neither game will actually be available fully on a game cart.
For whatever reason, this will still delay the release substantially. For instance, Fallout 4 will be available on the Switch 2 digitally from February 24, but boxed versions (with a game code) won't be available until April 28.
Now, Oblivion Remastered makes a smidge of sense. It's a fairly recent release on other platforms...
