Resident Evil Requiem is finally here, and it hasn't taken it long to set a major new record for the franchise. Decades after its inception, Resident Evil seems to only be growing, and the long-awaited return of Leon S. Kennedy in a new mainline game certainly isn't hurting anything.
According to SteamDB, Resident Evil Requiem reached a peak of over 320,000 concurrent players before noon EST on Friday, less than 12 hours after its midnight release. That number currently places it third on Steam player counts, falling only behind the PC-exclusive multiplayer titans Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. It also represents a significant new benchmark for the franchise, nearly doubling the record set by the Resident Evil 4 remake in 2023.
For context, the Resident Evil 4 remake topped out at 168,000 players after launch, a number that Requiem could still double if it sees another surge of players this weekend. Resident Evil Village, the last mainline game, made it to 106,631, which Requiem has already tripled. No other Resident Evil releases have cracked the 100K barrier on Steam, making Requiem's achievement even more impressive by comparison.
