PlayStation held a playtest for Horizon Hunters Gathering over the weekend, a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe with a far more animated artstyle than the core games. Even though it was a closed test, getting an invite wasn't all that complicated, which is why the player count it topped out at might have some who are working on the game a little worried.
Hunters Gathering opened its servers on six occasions over the weekend, twice each day to accomodate for players in Europe and the US. The highest player count the multiplayer Horizon spinoff achieved on Steam was 561, according to SteamDB. That was for the first of the two playtest windows that took place on Friday, February 28.
The number of people who kept coming back for more decreased every time the servers reopened, all the way down to just 226 people during the final window on Sunday evening. That's pretty bad, and cause for alarm at Horizon HQ, I'd imagine. However, it's not as bad as some were making out on social media over the weekend.
