Resident Evil Requiem doesn't hold back on the scares, but one of the most important figures in Resident Evil history thinks it should. It's hard to deny that the modern games tap into more fear than either the original PS1 classics or the action-oriented titles that followed, and that shift can leave some fans of the series feeling a little uncomfortable.
On X, Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya requested a "non-scary mode" for Resident Evil Requiem, claiming that he wants to play the game but finds it too scary. Kamiya is still interested in the puzzles and battles, arguing that the element of fear isn't necessary to enjoy the Resident Evil experience. As it turns out, though, a lot of fans have different opinions.
Kamiya has clearly put some thought into what he'd like to see from a non-scary mode, and it's a little more involved than just removing enemies or turning the lights on. He proposes cute designs for the zombies, upbeat music, and cherry blossoms to replace Resident Evil Requiem's copious amounts of blood spray.
