Given the current direction of the industry, yet more layoffs at a major studio probably won't shock you. Once again, however, it's Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics that's letting its staff go.
Announcing the layoffs in a post on LinkedIn, Crystal Dynamics says it "always strive[s] to transition [its] people into new roles whenever possible", but that on this occasion, these "departures are necessary". I'm not sure those losing their jobs would consider it a "departure"; that rather puts the onus on the employees, if you ask me.
Crystal Dynamics confirms in the post that 20 staff members are losing their jobs, and that these staffers are split between development personnel and "central operations roles". The developer says it will provide "severance and job placement assistance" to those who are being let go.
As for the current projects on which Crystal Dynamics is working, the studio says that it "remains fully committed to the future development of [its] already-announced Tomb Raider titles", namely remake Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and brand new adventure Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
