Ubisoft Guts Rainbow Six Studio Red Storm, Laying Off All Developers | TechRaptor

According to a new report, Ubisoft is gutting one of its oldest and most legendary studios, Rainbow Six outfit Red Storm, in order to turn it into a support studio for technical elements.

VGC's Andy Robinson reports that Ubisoft announced 105 redundancies at Red Storm today, and that every game developer currently working at the studio has been laid off. Red Storm will remain open for what Robinson calls "global IT and Snowdrop support", referring to Ubisoft's proprietary engine.

Red Storm Entertainment was founded all the way back in 1996, developing the first ever Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six game before being acquired by Ubisoft (which was then known as Ubi Soft) in 2000.

As well as Rainbow Six, Red Storm also developed the first Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon title in 2001, and while that franchise is perhaps doing a little less well than Rainbow Six, it's still beloved by many around the world.

After developing many Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games, Red Storm pivoted to VR titles, developing 2016's Werewolves Within and 2017's Star Trek: Bridge Crew for VR platforms.
