If you're a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, then last December's double announcement at The Game Awards was the stuff of dreams. There, it was revealed that the first game would be receiving a full-blown remake in the form of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Then, if that wasn't enough Lara Croft, and let's be real, there's never enough, then Tomb Raider: Catalyst was also announced, a brand-new entry in the long-running franchise.
As Tomb Raider looks to reinvent itself again, it should pay attention to past successes.
However, as exciting as those announcements were, layoffs at studio Crystal Dynamics have dampened expectations. Now, after another round of layoffs, Crystal Dynamics has come out to affirm that they are still committed to the franchise.
As first spotted by GamesRadar, Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that it is laying off an additional 20 staff members, split between developers and central staff operations. It is the fourth round of layoffs at the studio in less than a year, following rounds of layoffs in March 2025, July and then August.
